How close were you? The commonly reported flaw with bird recognition is that it defaults to the closest bird (if there is a conflict).A chaffinch hopped into my camper van while I was on the Isle of Mull so I put some crumbs out for him and took some picsView attachment 424751.......

As the chaffinch is so much more obvious in the frame, I wonder if the lens can't focus close enough forcing the camera to go for the ringed plover/puffin as the only bird(s) it can focus on.
But the real lesson is to avoid photographing chaffinches who use mugs with birds printed on them.
My embarrassing moment last week, with my new Z8, was that the fancy subject detect was incredibly erratic. My disappointment was quickly replaced by embarrassment when I realised the lens was set to prevent it focussing closer than 3m !!You could be right. It was all a bit hurried and I did get one where the chaffinch IS in focus......
I'm the same.... I never get lost either, I do sometimes get geographically dislocated.I'm perfect and never make any mistakes...
Except when I've made pretty much every mistake possible!!!![]()

My old favourite saying was I’m not lost I’m geographically disorientated.
You could be right there haha."Geographically challenged" these days....surely?
When I learnt to fly my instructor told me “you’re never lost. You may, however, be temporarily uncertain of your exact location”I never get lost either, I do sometimes get geographically dislocated
nothing that can't be fixed with topaz ai sharpening![]()
