Yes
I feel a fraud for "owning" this one since most of the fleshing out of my original idea was done by @Harlequin565 and @sirch but here goes with Mark 4 of my Panel idea::

1. Candidates/participants propose a Theme with a Statement of Intent at the beginning, creating their own thread with this as the first post (which itself can attract comments), within a stated genre (landscape, portrait, macro etc)
2. Participants shoot on their theme or dredge their back-catalogue, posting their best images on that theme into their thread for critique
3. I run an overall progress chart using feedback from participants on how they feel they are progressing towards a panel of 5 images on the theme (added to the original kick-off thread)
4. Every 6 months I start a thread for Panels to be submitted, each posting consisting of 5 images and a composite one showing layout for presentation. No comments allowed in this thread but are allowed on the entrants' individual threads, on the composite panel layout and the delivery of images to the original brief.
5. A small group of staff-selected chosen suitably qualified members who have experience in going through the panel critique process or similar will provide overall feedback on whether they think each panel is successful, on the summary thread

I'll leave this thread open for comments up until the new year and then we can kick-off the first season (period) of panel proposals. Any volunteers? It's sort of like a practice run for the RPS distinctions if you like, or alternatively just a personal project challenge.

(BTW sorry about the name but the alliteration appealed to me)

Does that mean that you can post as many shots as you want into your own thread and then choose 5 of them to form a composite? Or are you limited to just 5 overall?

hmm, 5 images - having entered and been reasonably sucessful in panels the images number tends to be even - in my case 6 images, it allows a more balanced panel I think . I would be interested in why 5 was decided on :)

@XenosElaine I didn't envisage any limit to the number of images posted in someone's personal thread, no, although it might be worth thinking of the thread as a shortlist to select from.

@Rincewind the number five was plucked from thin air, it could have been 4 or 6. Given your comment, I'm happy to change the requirement to 6 if it seems more appropriate - I kind of agree about the balance.

@lindsay, no worries, no need for change - 6 has a symmetry but 5 has a dynamic - so whatever everyone thinks, having done my L and A in the Societies of Photographers and had to provide panels of 20 images either number works for me :)

I'm not sure that there's been enough interest in this idea to kick anything off, but if I'm mistaken I am happy to be corrected. However even if not formally adopted as a Forum Challenge, it is still easy enough for people to create their own project and personal challenge along the lines described above.

That's a shame! I know from my own experience on a far more general forum, how disappointing it is to come up with what I think is a good idea and then to receive very little response to it :(

I'd already decided on a project and started searching through my archives, so I'll definitely create my own personal thread and hope that others will do as well.

I look forward to seeing you post a theme/statement of intent @XenosElaine and to seeing your panel develop. It's something I'd like to do myself, but I need to start shooting more as my archives are very thin and not remotely adequate so far.
