Yes I realise I'm probably opening a can of worms and they aren't the ideal solution, but for my situation they are the ideal solution.
I've currently got a Lastolite blurred background but need to get a new Black/white reversible background as I gave my old Photosel with train covers to my brother some time ago and don't feel I can ask for it back.

I've read a few threads on here and now know to avoid the cheap ones on eBay and amazon but one thing that surprised me was the negative reports I've seen on the lastolite 1.8 x 1.5 metre model, with people complaining about the translucency of it.

I should add my wall is 2.4 metres from floor to ceiling.

I've seen a couple that interest me, perhaps you guys could help me to once again to not make a mistake.

Westcott - 1.8 x 1.5 - seems ok and I can pick one up for a reasonable price.

Pixapro - 2 x 2.3 - I'm not sure about the brand or whether its just another cheaper Chinese background and not much different to the budget ones, on the plus side it would give me floor to ceiling coverage.

Photosel - 2 x 2.4 - once again floor to ceiling coverage and the one I had before was quite good but it could have been the reversible canvas hood for it that made it so good

Finally do I risk it on a Lastolite and hope the opacity has improved?

I know the simplest thing to do is paint a wall white, but A - I can't abide the smell of paint and B - I smoke (and no I don't want to give up thanks, its all I have left of the old me before the accident) so it would be yellow in no time at all, at least with collapsible backgrounds and soft boxes they can be stored in another room, in their cases and hopefully kept free from becoming dirtied by the atmosphere in my main room.

My experience is limited to Lastolite, but I can't help thinking any problems with translucency will be down to positioning against a window in daylight. Even then, unless it's bright sun, the power of the flash would probably overwhelm it.

ps Have you tried a decent vaporiser?

Yes, I think I need an industrial extractor fan !! ;)

I was thinking that about the lastolite but I've seen so many reviews from users complaining of the issue its put me off a little

I agree with Richard, any defficiency is only likely to show if there is a strong light behind it - and a shutter speed that is unecessarily long and combined with an underpowered flash.

A decent vaporiser... just can't get on with them :( and at my age, I need to have at least one vice left

Advice taken and actioned, Lastolite background ordered.

I know what you mean about vices Garry, all of mine bar the ciggies have gone out of the window over the last 7 years, no women, booze, the vast majority of my hobbies gone and fighting like crazy to find ways to keep doing this one... the least I deserve is to be able to have a ciggie when I want one ;)

Ps I'm no spring chicken myself
