The theme.
A day in the life of your kit.
This is just as much about the equipment used as the final image itself.

The rules & T&C's
The competition will run from 00:01 Weds 22nd of June to 23:59 Weds 20th July.
You must have been a member before the competition was announced to take part.
( as of 13:00 20/06/22)
The image must have been taken between those two dates / times.
Anything posted outside these times or conditions will be deleted.

The competition itself.
Take an image, and post it HERE
(use this thread for any discussions)

Add a brief description about the equipment used.
Why you chose that image / subject.
Why you chose that camera and lens combination.
Was it hand held or was a tripod used.
What settings did you use and why.
Add an image of your equipment used at the time and on the day.
This can be as simple as you like, from a phone snap, to a separate professional camera & lens.

mpb full terms and conditions can be found HERE

The prizes,
@mpb.com are offering a very generous £250 voucher, to each, of the 3 equal winners.
@mpb.com will be judging the competition, and will be announcing the winners approx one week after it closes.

As @mpb.com have now clarified their T&C's I hope this will put an end to all the unpleasantness.

7. The first fully completed entry drawn at random will determine the Prize winner(s) ("Winner(s)"). The draw will be made via or observed, by an independent person. The Winner will be notified by email within five days of the closing date.

Oh, it's a lottery? That's disappointing.

That's odd, because on that other thread it was stated that judge would be named soon

I have emailed mpb to clarify if #7 is in fact relevant.

Strongly suspect "Talk Photography" has been inserted into a previously used document.
Quite a few times when the words "prize" and "prizes" are interchanged

I had the same issue when writing press replies using cut and paste from previously used releases.
Fair enough, no doubt the rules are always similar and who wants to start from scratch unnecessarily

n.b. the above is observation not criticism

MPB have sent you a generic set of rules which have absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the competition that you are promoting. It’s patently obvious that no one at Talk Photography read these rules prior to them being published in the opening post of this thread. And the following issues still need to be addressed:

COPYRIGHT: Does the photographer retain the copyright to his/her images. YES or NO?

LICENSING: Are the winners of the competition expected to grant MPB a licence to use the winning images. YES or NO? If yes then what are the details of that licensing agreement?

It beggars belief that the organisers of a photography competition cannot provide answers to two simple questions.

The Staff along with mpb go out of their way and set up a photo comp and a winner gets £250 voucher, then the first thread gets torn to shreads. Now a new thread with the rules and T&C gets put up and folk still kick up, so the easy way to short it out is. Put in an image that might get you a win, Or don't. It beggars belief that you can't please everyone.

Send a PM to Cobra would seem to me to be the best way of raising queries about the rules…

I guess if you think you have an image that could win the top prize at LPoTY, then you won’t be entering it in this competition. What’s with the stroppy tone? No need for it.

Of course we read them.

Once more, this is a wholly owned mpb sponsored competition.
TP has no input or responsibility as to the competition.
We have promoted the competition on behalf of mbp, and as such, posted 2 threads.
1 for entry
1 for discussion.

No one is forcing anyone to partake.
If you ( or anyone else) doesn't like the way its been presented, the simple answer is
DO NOT enter.

  1. Quote "By participating in the Competition, you agree that, if you win, you will co-operate in all advertising, marketing and publicity material and activities we may, at our expense, produce or arrange and you will sign, if requested, an irrevocable release form allowing us, without any compensation being payable, to use your name, photograph, likeness, details of the country and/or city where you live, any comments made by or attributed to you, and to incorporate any such information in and any audio/visual recording or broadcast for such promotional purposes, in any media, throughout the world." unquote
this is why I won't enter

Same feeling as you now Gramps, I'm out of here, so Thanks to those who ruined it.
Me too, my personal issues are enough to over come for this, let alone others :(

Good luck everyone who enters (y)

Thank you for the chance to enter and the offer of a comp, is a very nice thing to do :)

Edit- just to say sorry to TP owners, as this must look awful from others POV

You don't need to tell us why you're not entering.....just don't enter...

Its just not my thing, haven't got a competitive bone in my body.
I liked entering the POTY because it made me think about how to approach a particular subject.

There again I certainly wouldn't let others put me off if I wanted to enter.

Plenty of people on this thread should join the People's front of Judea (if you don't know what it is, don't guess, look it up).
What did MPB ever do for us? lol. I'll be entering, when I get a pic sorted.

And your point is?

Never mind I am sure you will be missed.- not.

I have a very radical idea,
all those that want to enter, please do.
It'll be good to see TP members rising to the challenge, and I'm sure many excellent images will be posted.

Those that have no intention of doing so, stay out of the thread,
however well intentioned ( or not) they think their post is.
You do realise that all this negativity and dissecting the rules to the n'th degree is not reflecting well on
TP or some of its members.

There are and have been several competitions and challenges run on TP over the years.
Not one person has challenged the rules or guide lines, nor questioned the validity of an image, nor the location
taken.

I'm sure many of the Urbex images posted, the photographer never applied for permission to enter the site.
I'm sure a lot of Urban landscapes and street images, the photographer may not have the required permission
to take those images in some locations.

Do we see naysayers, dissecting their images?
No of course we don't. The image is accepted at face value.

And yet when there is a generous, £250 prize at stake,
the first thread went to hell in a hand cart, and this one, is not far behind.

So lets all get behind the positives and enjoy ourselves eh?

Many many years ago my father said David Don't Let the Bs Grind you Down, I did wrong and had to be punished. Short story is I am NOT going to stop doing what I love and YES I am going to put a shot in as it is a great bit of fun and the staff and mpb have gone out of their way to set this up. Plus if by some mad chance I win then I will gladly let mpb use my image and for FREE.

Sounds like a bit of fun, and i`ve done enough selfies in the past. So the ProMo pix won`t bother me (if I win) haha

Just have to think of something to shoot now, and remember to grab a pic of the camera ;)

There is are personals issues starting to creep in.
Threads deleted, that is the end of it.
