Went with the wife and granddaughter to a local Amazon returns warehouse yesterday . With care there’s some super bargains to be found at silly prices a lot of it brand new clearance items as well as returns . But you do have to read the labels carefully as lots of items are in plain brown boxes .. I also believe it’s just not Amazon but also Temu and other importers clearance items .. and we all love a bargain .. but one thing I found on the shelves that still has me wondering though we never bought it . Was a wi.fi enabled remote control butt plug .. WTF … who the hell actually buys things like that , it did give the granddaughter the giggles though

And more to the point.........who on earth would buy it.........you never know where it has been  :cautious::LOL:

PS yonks ago, one of my customers was an undergarments maker and the biggest supplier to M&S. As the supplier & logistics centre they handled all the returns.
I learned that because of a few trigger events re: returned knickers, all such labelled returns went to, in effect, a specialist dirty waste handling team.

In discussing this with my contact neither of us could workout what possesses people to think it is acceptable to return used soiled items for a refund! He wasn't involved in the 'refund' administration and wasn't sure what letters went out to the requesting returnee.

still trying to figure out what I did buy one item being a pack of 12 model railway working street lights in I think n gauge at £1.25 a pack it seemed like a bargain .LOL also got a large gaming mouse mat for £1.50 36inches x 17inches looks well smart on my desk

I often wonder about the mentality of some people who return things. I recently bought 2 guitar amps to try out, didn't like either, so returned both, carefully replaced in their wrapping, you would never know they were not new. Why wouldn't you return everything like that?

Reminds me of a funeral I went to. At the wake, a very large lady with lots of tattoos spilled some drink on to her black mini skirt, she was very upset and said "That cost £36, and I won't be able to return it now!"
Her husband reassured her, "Of course you will, they never check"

And these are the people who complain about the price of everything, they just don't get it that it's their dishonesty that we all have to pay for.

The saddest thing is that 'they' see it as legitimate but ignore the fact that is fraud .......and frankly I wish there was a system in place to not only for the shops to more thoroughly examine the returns but also prosecute the offenders. At the very least I suspect such folks are serial offenders who like shoplifters should be logged as suspicious and once enough data has been gathered prosecuted to the fullest extent!

I agree. I used to shoot fashion for a fairly small firm that sold both in their own shop and online, and they told me that all that the online sales achieved was turnover, the profits were virtually nil because of the very high volume of completely unjustified returns.

With Amazon, they've achieved their reputation by always taking the customers' side, and they always refund without question. It isn't their problem, all returned goods are charged to the supplier, and they even charge for handling and storage . . .

There's no need to prosecute bad returns - just send it back to the customer, charging a second postage on top of the full cost of the item.

A valid method, though I surmise it would have to stated explicitly in the T & Cs re: if not returned in new unused condition, it will be refused a refund and returned & billed for the delivery cost.

If that were to be done the companies would have implement it 100% as needed.

A coincidence. On LBC Radio this afternoon they were talking about 'returns' and one person with knowledge of the practice said that 'buying' the likes of dresses/suits and then returning them after the event became much more common after smoking was banned in public places and inside pubs/retaurants because before that the clothes would smell of smoke..anyone who spent an evening in such places will tell you how awful their clothes smelt..pre ban days. I also heard another contributor say that in Paris individuals, mainly females, who have blogs and many 'followers' go into a posh shop step outside to see what it looks like in 'proper daylight', have a photographer take a few quick shots and then return into the store and say it's not the right colour but use the photos on their bolgs. Is blogs the right term ?...I don't know but I'm sure you'll know what I mean.

I just bought three pairs of slacks and due to my misunderstanding of the sizing chart, the waists are too big.

Not being a fashion plate, I've just sewn an extra button onto each waistband and now they fit nicely. I'm not claiming sainthood here but I don't think I should make a seller stand the cost of a return for my mistake - I'd rather be a mug than a cheat.

From the other side, my wife finds it difficult to find clothes that fit her, having lost part of a breast through cancer. Clothes whilst looking good on a screen often just don't work for her added to that one companies size 16 is another companies size 18 or 14 take your pick.

I bought some tops and shorts in Tenerife a couple of weeks ago because just don't see the colour here and the same sizes differed so much I was obliged to try each one on at the recommendation of the assistant. The manageress said that when she wants to buy a particular item she takes three sizes into the changing room. I don't know why this happens because don't machines make them rather than Filipinos, Bangladeshis, Chinese or Taiwanese ? That's where they all come from. One pair of 36" trousers here..even from M&S will fit me fine another labelled 36" are just a bit too close-fitting for comfort so I have to go to 38" and they can be too large. Crucially too, You have to allow for sitting down. That's the test. With tops I vary between medium and large. It's a pain trying on one then another but it has to be done. When I bought the tops I had to buy large so I just picked up a diferrent colour in large but the assistant recommended I try on the second one. It turned out ok.

Fortunately, with M&S online, you can return an item to the local store if there's one there which there are in most reasonably-sized towns and,I assume, all cities.

Well Jeff @the black fox you've maybe got a new hobby kick-start there - N-gauge railways!?

I'm with everyone on this practice of ordering, using then returning clothes for refund - it's terrible. The practice of Amazon in always siding with the buyer is reassuring when you are a buyer, but since Ebay went that way too it's been the death of that imho as a useful way to sell things.

Much less space consuming than the larger scales BUT MUCH more fiddly as well! Fitting the digital controller chips into some of the smaller locos can be a challenge - even 15 years ago... These days, they can probably be ordered with the chips already installed but that still leaves the other scale challenges.

I used to be a modeller , but lost interest in it after getting married, I was in to N-gauge modern image.. Recently though I've bought an O gauge class 37, and a OO gauge one as well.... But they are for display rather than running on a layout.

You are not a mug. You just made a mistake but, unlike some, you accepted it.

That belonged to my missus but she sent it back as it doesn't support wi-fi 7
