What IS the Inverse Square Law?
It’s the basic law of Physics, published by Isaac Newton, that explains why we lose lighting intensity over distance, and how much is actually lost. It applies to ALL forms of uncontrolled radiated energy, not just light.

Why does it matter?
Because photography is about light, and every single shot we take uses light, and all light is affected by the ISL. The effect may be more dramatic when we use artificial light in small spaces, but it still applies to all...

The ISL is the basis for all lighting challenges and solutions. Artificial light photographers (especially) tend to understand it, or at least they understand enough for it not to be a problem, so I thought it was about time to explain it to those who don't already know it.
