An awful weekend in our house our African grey parrot Barney died on Saturday that's him on my avatar. I had raised him from hatching and we had a bond that unless you seen it you would not believe it, Barney was 16 years old, people who don't have animals in there life never understand how when you loose one it's a member of your family that has gone, I'm 46 years old and spent Saturday crying like a baby. R.I.P Barney bird

Those of us who do have animals, do understand exactly how you're feeling! I've never had a parrot [he was a good looking chap, wasn't he!?] but the loss of my dogs and cats has always sent me into a deep misery! Usually followed by the vow of 'never again, this unhappiness isn't worth it' ... following which we've now built up to a menagerie of two dogs and seven cats! :help:

It's well known that parrots go to Rainbow Bridge too so you'll see him again there

Also, if it helps, Steve, I'll be offended on your behalf too if anyone in this thread questions if he's not just resting after a long squawk! ;)

Jonathan said it ^ I cried like a baby when I lost my dog and best friend. RIP Barney.

The loss of a much loved pet, no matter how big or small, is never an easy thing. But you still have your treasured memories as the pet in question was lucky to have a caring and loving owner such as you.

Sorry to hear your news Steve and you have my condolences. Being a dog owner and losing one after 13 years and then nearly losing another two weeks ago following an RTA I know what it's and appreciate that they really are a part of the family.

I lost my moggie just after Christmas, cried like a baby so I know exactly how you feel. The good people of TP rallied round and made me feel a lot better. Having lost my friend so very recently I know you will get to feel less upset over the coming days and weeks. I know nothing of parrotts but 16 years does seem like a good innings, you must have treated him very well.

Sorry to hear that Steve. Never easy to lose a pet.

We said goodbye to one of our dogs last August, and there isnt a day that goes by that I do not think about him. Miss him terribly.

Thanks for the support, MatBin 16 is young for a parrot they live for about 50 years, he had a fungal infection that just would not go away despite all the vets help.

I thought they were normally long lived. A friend of my wife has one, must be about 25-30 now. She used to be our neighbour & we never knew the bird existed until one day when the wife was hanging out some washing she heard someone call out Oy!!!!!! in a long drawn out way. Transpired it was the AG which she'd put in its cage out in the garden to catch some rays. Wifey thought it was some pervert hanging out somewhere watching her

This is making me want to come over and give you a hug. The birdy in my avatar isn't a personal pet, just a parrot I happened to photograph one day, but they're lovely birds and great pets. So sorry to hear about Barney. I'm older than you and sobbed my socks off when my old horse had to go off to Rainbow Bridge with a little help from my lovely vet ... No shame is being saddened by the loss of an old friend. Big <<< hugs >>> ...

All you can do i love them and do the best you can for them whilst their with you, had to put both my dogs down last year and it was best for them but i knew they had the best life anyone could of given them.
Don't get me wrong i miss them everyday but laughing with MrsB about the fun times we had with them has helped, sorry for your loss of Barney and he is a fine looking bird

We lost the family dog this morning. She was a rescued fox terrier/ collie cross. She did well making it to approx 15. I don't think my parents will get another one now even though they have always had a dog.

I know the feeling and it's not a nice one, I remember when my Basset Hound passed away many years ago. I did have a good old cry as I got her when I was thirteen, and I lost her when I was in my twenties.

Sorry for your loss, we've lost a few dearly loved pets over the years and every time it's heartbreaking. We have an African Grey called Banjo, he is an incredible character and cannot imagine our home without him.
