Boris just announced that xmas is basically cancelled.

'The new Tier 4 measures in southeast England will see all non-essential shops, gyms, and hairdressers close, with people ordered to stay home apart from limited exceptions such as work - if people cannot work from home - education, childcare and exercise.

People in Tier 4 areas will no longer be allowed to form "Christmas bubbles" with other households.

Meanwhile, outside of the South East, people will still be allowed to mix in private homes with up to two other households, but now only on Christmas Day.

The Tier 4 measures in the South East will be in place for an initial two-week period, with a review on 30 December, and Mr Johnson stressed that people must stick to the rules for the New Year period.

Those in Tier 4 areas are being ordered not to stay overnight away from home or travel abroad for holidays, while people in other areas are being advised not to enter Tier 4 areas - and not to travel generally if they can avoid it.'

I'm north london, so tier 4. I was just wondering if this is the same as the previous lockdowns where if I wanted to get the tube into london to take photos and then get the train home, I can't and would get fined? It looks that way.

Surely this is why you’ve been put into tier 4.. is it essential you go out wandering around to take photos?

If the answer is anything but yes, which it won’t be, stay home.

I haven’t seen my parents in over a year as we couldn’t see them, last xmas as my wife and I were both very ill (all the CV symptoms oddly enough). I’m now not going to get to see them again as they live in Wales.
I could just say b****r it and go anyway, but I realise me not going to see them could save their lives and anybody else’s life who I happen to come across.
Its really not hard, just stay at home.

Yeah I'm fine with staying home. I was just checking the rules. Blimey, it's just a simple question!

TBF I thought what I read on the BBC website was unambiguous, but I also understand the hope that there was more freedom than that.

T4 is starting tomorrow. My home is in T4 but I am currently away in a T2 area (we left when London was still T2!!). in space of less than a week my home has gone from T2 to T3 to T4
Not sure if we should stay out till we finish our staycation or leave immediately to get back home.
I am definitely not driving now in the dark and heavy rain from middle of nowhere with single lane roads and no street lighting. At which point I don't see the difference in returning tomorrow or day after (when we actually need to checkout).

all very ambiguous.... if I am to follow the highlighted part of the rules I should be returning now but as mentioned I don't feel its safe to do.

I've always been one for asking something when everyone else understands. :D

Yep, indeed. "Those in Tier 4 areas are being ordered not to stay overnight away from home " made me wonder if it means it's ok to go out as long as I come home the same day. That was the only point I was a little unsure of.

In your position, given you left home when you were still T2, common sense would suggest you checkout as planned then return. Or you could just visit an optician ... o_O

There are a few advisories coming up now on the .gov site. Lots of do`s and don`ts as usual. Tier 4 for me (glad I got my hair cut last week), but not much really has changed for me, apart from my daughter being back from Uni.
Still gotta go to bloody work though ;)

that's what I felt too.... don't wear glasses but didn't realise they are capable of brightening pitch darkness and stopping heavy rain :ROFLMAO:
I have driven in worst when I am on my own. but with a family and a 3 year old in the back, I am taking no risks whatsoever.

Stay there until you are due to return. IMO of course.

You took up residence as a tier 2 dweller and that's what you remained. I would suggest the advisory about not staying away tonight would be applied to anyone presently in a T3 due to switch to T4 and hoping to escape being locked down by moving now.
