The History of Photography in Britain on Youtube

During a youtube safari I came across this video containing the three episodes of a documentary I saw years ago on TV. Three hours it had me enthralled, seeing the developments in the science and art of our hobby/pastime/profession. One photo in particular, by a pioneer woman photographer, Julia Margaret Cameron, is absolutely timeless. Hard to believe it was taken in 1864.

Doing a bit of research on Julia Margaret Cameron I found out that she was the one that took the famous photo of Charles Darwin that appeared on the £10 note!

If you're ever on the Isle of Wight, it's worth visiting Dimbola, once Julia Margaret Cameron's home and now a museum where you can see many examples of her work and the actual cameras that she used. And there's a nice cafe there, too.
