]The good side:

A few weeks ago when I was in the early stages of my recovery, I walked down to the local shops to buy the missus a Valentines card. However on the way I lost my wallet. Now being on crutches I knew the wallet had to be a few minutes from the house as I had stopped to adjust the splint. But there was no sign of the wallet. After an hour I rang the police to report it and lo and behold it had been handed in. They returned it and nothing was missing, not even the 25 quid, 80 Euros or 20 dollars that I had in there. I rang the person who handed it in and offered a reqards to which he said no thanks! That really boosted my faith in people!!!

The bad (?) Side:

I was given permission by the physio to start cycling so today I went out for a ride. On the ride I got a call from a MPBPhotographic and ordered a grip for my new camera. I rode on, then got a flat. A guy help to fix the puncture, I offered some cash towards a charity ride he was training for but then I realised I had dropped my wallet AGAIN:bang:

So I went looking for it....After retracing my steps ( only about 200Yds) from using the wallet to finding it lost, I was about to give up and head home. But one last go I thought. I spotted a group getting into a car that was in the area I thought I had lost it and asked them. Yep they had it...FANTASTIC ....BUT:

They said the wallet was on the floor with all the cards laying around. (strange!) I checked the contents and yep all the cards were there, :woot: but the cash had gone.... :( I thought maybe the wind had blown the cash away. However, all the reciepts were there. So I can only guess that someone has taken the cash and discarded the rest....Was it the people who returned it? I can't prove any thing but I am suspicious. So again I get away with loosing my wallet but this time it wasn't scot free!

I think it's luck of the draw with things of value. I've lost a phone and had it handed in, no problem whatsoever, but I left my wallet on the counter in a petrol station about 18 months ago, realised literally 2 minutes later and went back, and low & behold it had dissapeared, never to be seen again. I'm not saying I didn't trust the shady ****as behind the counter, but it's safe to say I haven't stopped at said station on my way to & from work since!! :( At least you got your cards back - that's the real pain in the arrish when you lose a wallet, as losing your contacts list is with a phone!

Oh, and the petrol station probably isn't too far from you (very close to the end of the M56!!)

Brocks, I reckon you need to put some more thought into how you carry your wallet.
Think about a travel waistcoat with a security pocket.

I've found and handed wallets in before - it is amazing how many get lost!

Maybe time to find a way of fastening yours about your person!

My worst experience of having something stolen was 2 yrs ago on holidays. We arrived in Cyprus for our holiday at 04:00 am, and of course went straight to bed. Got up the following morning, breakfast then the pool relaxing and getting into our stride. We returned to our room around 3:00 to find an ex employee had used his key to get into our room, and took all our cash... all £1,200 of it.

We never take cash, except this time when Jen had saved up her money.

1st day of holiday, all money stolen. Hotel did nothing. Wont be going back to Cyprus again quickly!!

That's my worst fear I have on holiday. I hate using plastic abroad as its so easy to go over budget

not as easy as losing £1200 in cash and having to use a CC all of your holiday, carrying that much cash is just asking for trouble

Nope, not when it was in the room safe and the ex employee also broke into that!!!

I can assure you wack61 I didn't ask the ex employee thief who used his stolen master key to gain access to our room, then another key to open our safe - to simply take our hard earned holiday money. It wasn't just my wife and I who were stolen from... we had our two kids with us too - and we managed to ensure they still enjoyed their holiday.

I don't know where you get off making comments like that, and yes you have touched a raw nerve. I can only assume nothing like this has ever happened to you.
