Sorry if this question has been asked a ton of times, i did search and couldn't really find a definitive answer. I am looking for my first flashgun for use on my Nikon D3100.

I am looking for optical slave mode, so i can activate it with my D3100 pop up flash, good power, and good value for money. I think perhaps the ability to zoom manually also? to give me more control. I was looking at spending between £120 and £200 if it is really worth spending the extra.

I have been looking at the Metz 50 AF-1 which is around £180, does anybody have any experience with this flash? can you comment on how you got on with it? and of course for a little more money there is the Nikon SB700 but is it really worth the extra money especially considering its significantly less powerful?

Would really appreciate any advice...

Dan

The Jessops 360AFD can be picked up for a bargain price second hand(around £35-40). They do get mixed reviews from some but I've had 2 and never had a problem with either.

2nd hand SB800 or a SB700. Brilliant flashguns that do everything you want. Both supremely easy to use and with a fair whack of power
