The File Size arms race

I would think that for most of us, dynamic range and noise-handling are far more important than sheer megapixel counts?

My requirement too. As sensor and processing technology advance I'd like to file sizes kept to 24mp, quite large enough for my use, and low noise performance enhanced. Nikon made the right move with the D500 sensor, but not with the D850. Trouble is most punters believe more mp is better and that guides their purchasing.

Its just part of the larger consumer race to have bigger and better.
Besides if you have the cash to buy a big camera that pushes out big files even though you cant use it to its full potential when sharing images online its not really an issue, its the enjoyment of owning that particular product.

Its no different to buying a car with a 3L engine when a 1L can do the exact same (within the confinds of the highway code)

Or have a 4K TV when full HD will suffice especially if all you do is watch normal tv channels.

You chose to own these products readily knowing the limitations in which they can be used until the third party on the other side changes the way we can use them which usually has a cost factor attributed to it.

I like my 3l but thinking of going to the 5.5l next or even the S class with the 6 litre twin turbo :D

I too love the D810 files but money no object would have the phase 1 100mp system, the 100% crops of it are like the full size ones off my D810. I love looking at the details safe in the knowledge I can print it big.

I've sold a few 30 inch x 20prints and they look great from the D8** models, try that with a D3 or D700.

Bigger is better and storage is cheap.

But they're not worse and allowing for crops, removing edges in keystone correction it's nice to have. If you do sell big prints big files are a life saver.

Nice. S class is plush and the engine is fantastic. Make sure you get the Active speed limit assist and the Traffic Sign Assist this time:D

Standard in them. Looking for a good w222 and it has all these things standard. Perfect for driving to the Alps in.

The E with the 3.0 is good but the S with 5.5 or 6 litre will be more comfortable for a journey like this this IMG_1981.JPG
