The enduring wait for lollipop

Did you miss Kitkat?

They didn't miss K out - the version before Lollipop was Kitkat.

View attachment 25897 It was going to be Key Lime Pie but Google realised not many people had heard of that.
Anybody got any nice wallpapers in keeping with the material design theme they'd like to share?
I've been using a variation on the stock wallpaper, included below.

I take it back, its absolutely nothing like KitKat, me widget still doesn't work but everything else seems to without any califudgery.

I like it, its much fresher and holds on to hardly anything from the previous incarnations graphically :)

umm.......I guess not........I may have had too many mugs of stupid that day :)

I've revised my nailed on "M" prediction from Marzipan to Marshmallow

What an utter load of ****

Classic case of people messing up a mature product....presumably to justify their positions.

Internationally recognised symbol for WiFi? Nah we don't need that, we're 'fresh' go for something different. Oh and remove the button outlines from the keyboard, no one really needs to know where the keys are.

Utter dross. Android has always been trailing the pack usability wise, and they've done a great job of going backwards in this version. Everyone I know that has updated has gone back to KitKat. Don't bother!

Android has gone to a more modular design, so that all users regardless of the OS version can still experience the latest offerings of googles applications :) its a good solution to the carriers and manufacturers delaying OS update rollouts!

It's nothing to do with modularity, and everything to do with Google clawing android back from the open source community.

Is there any way of making 5 look more like 4? - particularly the lock screen, keyboard and notifications tray?

And why did they change the established icons for back, home screen and menu/tabs?

Cos Google are about to buy Sony out and make PlayStation games available for the Nexus family of devices..

or, it just looks nicer ?

Wow, guess you've got some real problems with 5.0! Personally, I like it, and to say it trails the pack in useability is just ridiculous, I found iOS counterintuitive, but to each his own, that's the beauty of having options :)

WP8 seems ok, but no need to replace my N5 yet so will keep an eye as to what WP10 brings to the table

iOS went backwards with 7 (those text 'buttons' at the top are awful), but at least iOS apps follow a standard UI pattern and apps are optimised for phone and tablet format, unlike Android where most apps are made to one size fits all and look dreadful on a tablet.

Windows Phone for me is the most intuitive mobile OS atm, with the most pleasing and useful main interface. Just lacking some features and more compelling hardware.

I'm actually back on iOS at the moment because I needed a phone quick and picked up a cheap iPhone 5. Nicer to use than android but it really does my head how *everything* is so bloody difficult in Apple world. Case in point, needed to setup the gfs mac air on my windows printer....well OBVIOUSLY you have to hold control and click on the toolbar, go to customise, and drag the 'advanced' icon off the popup onto the window behind (not the toolbar immediately below, in the dialog), in order to just add a fricking printer.

Having a period of intense hatred for all technology at the moment, all the major players are so damn backwards, it feels like usability has been going backwards in the last few years.

Is that a "no", I'm not waiting for Android 5 then ??

Lolliopop 5.0 on the Note 3. Bit laggy on the keyboard sometimes, sometimes the screen rotate will decide to have a think. Bluetooth is just a nightmare. Have to reboot the phone to connect to a paired device, then it may drop the connection, then you have to reboot the phone to try again. If you go out of range and try and reconnect bluetooth then you have to reboot the phone. Contacts will just stop working randomly. Hate the fact you have to unlock the screen to now switch phone to vibrate or silent.

Other than that, I like the general look and feel of it. But please fix the problems!

Put lollipop on my Sony Z2 at the weekend, works just fine. No problems at all. Keyboard, Bluetooth, wireless everything just works.

Android 5.1 was just pushed out and is installing on my Nexus 7.
Lollipop was a bit of a leap, but I've been using it for a while and it has grown on me.
No issues with performance and some of the new features are great.

As much as I love Android all of the issues you mentioned are widely known to be part of 5.0, I had shocking Bluetooth reliability and the memory leak causing screen redraw issues and slow performance/reboots.

Thankfully, 5.1 has resolved all of my issues, I wouldn't say Google are there yet and still have some work to do, but having said that iOS 8 has been far from perfect and bug-free.

I guess Google and Apple have forgotten about Quality Control as of late lol

I just got my new smart phone today and it updated to 5.1 no problems

I bought it from Amazon Germany and I am still trying to work out in my head why the phone is almost £200 more to buy SIM free in this country than it was from Germany
