The "classic" monochrome look

Hi all,

Going to Gibraltar in a weeks time, and I want to take a camera that will see me right, hopefully I can make it pay and sell some prints or something!

Anyways, I really want to take a medium format camera that I can use (preferably a TLR or SLR) with an uncoated lens and some old-formula (or whatever you want to call it) film to get the real old fashioned look whilst still retaining quality. A folder immediately jumps to mind, but I find them a bit hard to compose accurately with.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought of an older Rolleiflex with some Tri-X - anything else along those lines?

I find Fomapan has a traditional look and I liked the results when I ran a couple of rolls through my 1930s Rolleiflex and Zeiss Ikon Nettar. But it's very curly and so a b@stard to develop and scan...

I too was about to recommend Fomapan for this task. Modern day Tri-X definitely won't give you that look, IMO.

Until not long ago I thought Rollei retro 100 gave a nice creamy vintage neg, I think I've only shot one roll and with all the talk of that and AGFA APX being one and the same, I dunno any more.
