For all who love the Canon 450D...

Some of us feel that it is underestimated...

So here is the chance to post pics and tell some stories about what makes our beloved Canon 450D's so great!

A-ha!

I have just the picture for this!

ISO 1600, no Noise Reduction!

The photo has lost a bit of its sharpness after upload to PB, though.

Is that a screw loose? Oh no wait, it's a bolt

The only thing that bugs me about mine is the ISO1600 limit, and even that's noisy [resizing can hide a multitude of sins!].

I have toyed with changing mine for an advanced compact... But I cannot bring myself to let go of this fantastic DSLR.

So I am selling or rather have sold my lenses and plan on narrowing myself down to a 2.8 travel zoom.

I was out on Monday taking photographs for fun and I loved every press of the shutter. I find the quality of the images excellent and the camera so user friendly.

I'm not sure I'm that much of a fan of mine. Its great for landscapes and wide angle stuff. It works reliably and has never got grumpy. I batter it about sking and biking and its still going strong. Grips and SD cards are really cheap for it and the cameras are cheap second hand. But ...

Shove a nice long fast lens on it and the AF ain't half cr*p. The 7D I borrowed last week was a million miles better!

Yeah the AF is a little weak.

Deckard: I'd love a higher ISO limit too. It's more than capable of ISO 3200 I'd say, and 6400 would probably still be noisy even in well exposed shots, but possibly still doable. Of course, that might take purchases away from other cameras!

ISO 1600 is only noisy if you balls up the exposure! Too much shadow brings out noise, overexpose by half a stop, say, and you're gold. That bolt pic above was a bit brighter, I just brought it back down a bit in PP.

I appreciate mine and if it was not for the fact it was not fast enough for me I would not be thinking of upgrading, but certainly be keeping it as the second body though.

Oddly I've been fairly satisfied with the AF on mine. I've shot a few tennis events with mine and, as long as you've got a ring USM lens, the AF tracks fairly well on the centre point, e.g.:

(shot from the penultimate row of centre court, i.e. miles away. And with a crappy 75-300 III too!)

I'm quite certain that a 7D that is a generation or two newer and costs 3x as much will be better though.

I like mine, it's my first SLR and a bit of a step up from the compact cameras I have had previously, I am still learning how to use various features and if I was looking to make money from photography I would almost definitely invest in a higher specced camera.

Aahh I took my current 52 image with my 450 this afternoon:

lol!

I love how easy it is to use. my 52 this year is self portraits and I find it SO much easier to set a shot up using live view to set the composition compared to using the poxy small viewfinder on my 30D

450D FTW!

Although Im now on a 7D, I loved my previous 450D. A great camera, bit more technology inside than the 400D, but still small enough to take out on evenings etc etc

All on the 450D:

Very cool shot how did you shoot her ?

More appreciation for the 450D, I shot this last weekend:

Wasn't as easy as it looks to nail that shot. Firstly, the flower in the bottom right that is in focus was basically blowing about backwards and forwards and since I was at f/2 to get a narrow DOF, I couldn't keep focus on it. I'm not an action shooter so I normally stay away from AI servo, and when I had tried it once in a controlled environment I was never happy with the results. Anyway, I switched onto AI servo, moved my focus point and to my amazement the focus of the lens kept right up with the flower as it was blowing about - and the shot came out pin sharp when I pressed the shutter release. It appears that to make the best of AI servo on the 450D you need a subject which is moving constantly and at a rate of knots too.

The lens used was a 50mm f/1.4 - and the above photo has had no PP except a little bit of sharpening. May I just say that colour rendition from this lens is ducking phenominal, contrast is great and it is impressively sharp - the lens has cut down the amount of PP I do to such a point that all I do now is convert my RAWs to JPEG/TIFF all at once; very rarely is anything else done. Absolutely fantastic piece of kit - the only thing I'd like to see improved is focussing, sure it's better than the nifty fifty but still a bit iffy in less than good light.

I have two 450D bodies, and I absolutely love them. Easy to use, flexible, durable too. I've used mine in some dodgy weather before now. I use them for all kinds of photos, so I've put a few varied shots in here that I'm proud of.

A couple of widely different things shot with mine, I love it. I'd like some new faster glass though.
