17-40L is a cracking lens but for some reason this year it's not part of the canon cashback offer :shrug: which is a shame because it brought the price down to about £350. You're probably looking at over £400 for it now.
The other one to look at is the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 which is cheaper but reviews say of a similar quality to the 17-40L. There was a recent thread about it here if that helps.
what about a sigma 10 - 20mm im sure thats under 400, that mpb photographics have some good pre owned leses in stock, i have my eye on a 1 d mk2 from there
Tamron 17-50 2.8 to replace your kit lens I reckon. Cracking bit of glass apparently - Ive read some very favourable reviews. I think the only draw back is the slightly noisy AF.
Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 would get my vote - crackingly sharp piece of kit - mine is rarely off the camera when we're out and about. Well within your budget too!
