The benefit of air cushioned light stands...

but how many of us have employed clumsy/moronic assistants :p

proper air damping is a must in all honesty for heavy studio gear in this day and age

2 good points there, in...

1 - yep, the pillock of an assistant who would forget - had that!
2 - my studio gear for shooting kids was really quite lightweight, so I concede that one too

:D

all my kit is speedlight based atm and mostly ultraportable but the 13foot big fella

for say a big octa on a 1000ws head well that'd be painful :D

Im the only one in the studio bar the model so if i forget that there is a light on the top of my stand when i loosen it its my own fault for being bashed on the head by the flash&modifier :P

It's a miracle I'm still alive. Is my tripod a killer too?

I've had utterly painful thumbnails for months from mere microphone stands, let alone light stands. The 'careless'/retarded assistant will always be an issue, hence I'm pretty glad my 'big light' stands are air cushioned :P

some of us still think it has to rhyme to be a poem :p help please

My tripod's a death trap, they're no denying.
It's not the socket and the ball that will pin me to the wall,
Or the carbon fibre struts that will hit me in the nuts.
The really fatal thing, is the lack of air damping.

Easy for you to say David, but I'm surrounded by marauding Manfrottos

I bought two air cushioned stands. Now after one year use I see that most of the time I could do without this feature, never have assistants, never let anyone else use my gear and when I try to fold them back quickly the air cushion won't let me do it quickly. :)

So guess my next stands will not be air cushioned

Ive accidentally let one drop before, blown flash tube and a whiff of smoke. Opps.
Wont do again though.
