Today my Sigma (BIGMA) 50-500mm Four Thirds lens arrived today..
and it lives upto it's name... IT'S HUGE.

I'm currently waiting for my Panasonic 4/3rds to Micro 4/3rds to arrive to i can use it on my Panasonic GH1 ... But already i can see that the Lens is actually bigger than the camera itself.

As i'm using a Micro four thrids Panasonic GH1, The Bodys is very thing and lightweight, making the lens very very VERY top Heavy.

I'm a wildlife photographer, who loves to photography small birds, but will snap the chance of anything from Birds of prey to mammals.. to small lizards.

What Tripod/monopod/other would you reccomend for this situation..

Thanks
Alex

Ive got the 150-500 and i use a red snapper mono pod with mine. Ive used mine for f1 and aircraft and love it. Mine you i did take it out the other day to the local wild life reserve and to be honest with the mono pod it was a joy to use.

i have red snapper monopd, but my 50-500mm has os so i never use it.
you will love the lens.
heres some pics for you.

Scott, those are some BEAUTIFUL images, The Fieldfare especially to my liking!

I Really look forward to using the 50-500mm.. Hoping for some good weather ahead also!

Unfortunately my one doesn't seem to have the OS (i don't think so anyway)
So do you think a monopod will still be necessary, (especially with my camera)
I Almost feel im going to struggle getting used to it

Here's the Link of where i bought it from, if your intrested

Scott those are some amazing images. Being a noob, this is probably a stupid question, but how did you capture that 3rd one? It looks like it was dark out and you used a flash, but given the subject matter, this seems unlikely (also the lighting doesn't look quite right for a flash).

Cracking photos!

I'd really like something with this kind of range on, but think that at the moment a 2x converter for the 70-200mm 2.8 might be more cost effective while I save for a second body. :(

thanks for the comments.
mark just happened to be some light on the bird and behind which is about 10ft away from bird was dark bush used spot metering and this is the effect you get/

Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Great execution though - would love to have taken those photos! Hmm, might have to get me a massive zoom...

Those are some cracking pictures!

I'm going to merge my question from another thread into this one.
If you can help me, it would be much appreciated..

"I Have purchased and hold in my hands a Sigma 50-500mm Four Thirds Fit,
I Also have the Panasonic MA1 Adapter (Four thirds to micro four thirds) which Keeps AF, Exposure etc.. + a Panasonic GH1

My adapter finally arrived this morning and was eager to test it out.
I Put on the adapter and the lens, but then got a warning sign, which says.

"SWITCH TO MF"

My Camera is unable to use AF despite have the four thirds mount.
I Have updated the latest GH1 Body firmware,
But i cannot find any firmware updates i would need to the adapter mount or lens.

Can you help me?

Side Note: The BIGMA Weighs a Ton! especially with the GH1 Body!"

Also Here's a picture of the BIGMA on my GH1!
