Yes
To all you fellow Hampshire /Surrey dwellers.
Do any of you know if the canal is cycle/ walkable between Fleet & pirbright?

Just thinking with the good weather I might try cycling to work (and the 13 miles by road is a step too far!)

I think you might struggle to get all the way on the towpath as a couple of the bridges and supply pipes have anti-climb cages on them.

You don't have to stray too far to get past that section on the roads and back on the towpath though from memory.

Cycled from merry old Fleet to Weybridge and back last year along the canal and the river wey. No problems, there is however a slight detour just past the Mitchett Canal Centre through some MOD land and back to the canal, due to the degradation of the towpath. that was the only inconvenience that i encountered.

enjoy the ride! :)

Cherrs paul, tbh I'll probably only use it from mytchett onwards to avoid that awful road between mytchett and pirbright. I live in CC so will cross the training area up to the hotel in aldershot, quick blast across north camp and on from there

Going the other way isn't bad and is littered with some good pubs, the Barley Mow in Winchfield does fantastic food, the Waterwitch in Odiham has a nice beer garden and the Fox and Goose in Warnborough isn't to bad and some great photo's along the way :)

Well, this morning was 'ok' 17km in an hour, joined canal at mytchett lake, then this afternoon I thought I would see what route the canal takes towards fleet.

b****r, added an extra 6km to the journey.
Going to try the road route tomorrow.

Also you may not be aware that you need a permit to cycle on British Waterways towpaths.

Stragely enough it is actually free yes FREE OMG.

Download and keep a copy you could be stopped and prosecuted if you don't have one.

Not worth getting into trouble for the cost of a bit of paper
