Yes
Almost 2 and a half years old. Anyone know if a newer version will be out this year?

http://www.canonrumors.com/

Possibly. Maybe not. Who knows? Some people high up in Canon and thats about it.

As Sam says, rumors are yes, but then the rumors were also the 7D / 5D successar was going to be launched last quartar of 2011 ...

I suspect they will launch the mkii this year, but when and what the differences will be ?

It might be a few yers old now. But its still a brilliant camera. I dont think its outdated

So is my 500D but if I am going to spend the money on something like this I would much rather get the newer model 6 months or so after it comes out. If it was only a year old I would pick one up if I had the coin. I am not heading out on the road till Sept anyway so with a bit of luck one will be announced over the next few months and it will be at a somewhat reasonable price come Sept.

Say enough things, enough times your going to get one right, eventually.

Don't bother with rumour sites most know no more than you or I, and remember there is a big difference between announcement date and the date they hit the shops.

IF a mkII was announced today, you'd not get one until June. 7D is a great camera, buy now and enjoy it, if your waiting for the next version you'll be waiting forever, should you get a mkII or wait for the mkIII, then again a mk IV maybe coming soon after that.

7D is a good camera i say buy it now, i personally don't think canon will annouce any replacement yet.

Get a 7D and invest om better lens would be better option. Camera body is always buy and go but good glass will be with you forever ..... unless you want something else et

I know nothing but don't think the 7D will be upgraded yet. I think the 5D MkII will get an upgrade before it as that appears to be technologically older. I've got the 500D too and want a 5D. Part of me says when the upgrade happens get a MkII cheaper but another part will say spend more on the new one. If I wanted to stay with the cropped sensor I'd get a 7D now.

I wont be able to afford anything till March, even a HKG one is outta the question at the minute. It would still suck to buy one then have the new one come out a month later.

I have decided on the 15 85 mm lens.

is your call at the end of the day but personally i don't think canon will release a 7D replacement yet, they only announce 1dx not long ago so the most likely replacement will be the 5D mkii.

7D is still a good camera with newer technology.

Unless you want to go used .....

The 7D seems to have held it's 2nd hand price as well. I imagine in Q3 2012 it will still be worth a good amount 2nd hand.

I have the 15-85mm that came with the 7D, it's the sharpest lens I've seen :-)

Agree, I cannot see the need to replace/upgrade the 7D yet for Canon? It's a jack of all trades camera.

I also think the 5D mkIII will be next, I'm unsure on the Nikon line-up but I guess they will need to stay competitive in the FF market as a priority.

It will be a somewhat reasonable price, about two years after launch ;)

What do you want to do that a 7D cant do? why the need to keep changing camera if its works for you then keep it. Glass is the main thing any how.
I have only change when I want to do things my camera cant do.

A lot of what gets released and when is driven by the competition, Nikon are 'rumored' to be releasing D4/D800 (possibly this month). that will have some impact on what Canon will do.

Following www.Canonrumors.com is fine, if you pay attention to the rumor, CR3's are worth reading and some CR2's.

Even if you have no intention of getting the latest camera, i.e. the 7d is a cracking camera, it still has implications as new model will undoubtedly result in old model being reduced in price

The only thing I can think of would be to improve ISO performance. I did see one rumour that they were possibly developing sensor technology where the sensors were at the front of the array rather than behind all the electronics gubbins. It's known as a back-illuminated sensor (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-illuminated_sensor)

Other than that, I agree, not a lot that can be improved (and I'd rather a better focus system on a 5D3 before any improved 7D any day).

Canon will have 5d mkiii instead.

Nikon soon will announcement the D4 to go head to head with Canon 1dx
D800 to replace D700 to compete against the canon future 5d mkiii

They will probably announcement D400 later this year to replace the older techology D300s which suppose to be on the same class as 7D but many occasions the D7000 were use to compete against the 7D but ideally the D7000 should be on the same class with 60D.

Like I always said, once you got a decent camera to work with then is all down to the glass to get cracking images.

My friend still uses his 20D as main but with L glass instead. With those L glass he can upgrade in the future when needed without worry about buying new glass.

I have to agree with Andy, the similar spec Sony sensors are starting to make the 7D look a bit ragged at higher ISOs and I own one!

I'm a nikon guy but i got to give compliment to 7D altho i use D7000.

My friend have a 7D and i uses it to toy around and the camera is great. Many said the 7D doesn't have that many focus point but in reality i don't really use all of them on my D7k.

[edit] oops. im responding to the wrong post :-/

What is wrong with the ISO?
If you know how to use the camera its very good BUT you do need to know how to use it to get the best.... see this at 12800ISO
this was a RAW just developed in CS5.

It is not as good as the 5D2 at equivalent ISO plus if you get an extra 2 stops of ISO with low noise you can use this to up the shutter speeds in low light with slower lenses.

I like to see this ISO on a 5DII as its a much older camera to see how it looks.

It's not really related to age. The importance of sensor size contributes to cleaner images as stated above

had exactly the same decision you are making in September decided to buy my 7d and don't regret it. A 7d mk2 will happen but it's never going to be revolutionary it will only be iterative. A processor bump, a new sensor with slightly more pixels and a small improvement in Low light performance and some other small changes. The 5d will get more of an over hall I would think which means I will be able to buy a 5d mk2 used cheaper.

It may be a couple of years old but it still is a fantastic camera and I wouldn't part with mine for anything (well maybe a new 1Dx). I've partnered mine with a 5D2 and between them I get all the photos I want with great IQ from both, but with great reach from the 7D too.

I'd be more than happy with something as old as a 7D

I'd call my 40D and 1D Mark 2 'old' but I don't struggle as such.

Well said!

I have a strong professional interest in knowing what's in the product pipeline, but the rumour sites are of no value whatsoever.
