That feeling when you get a new camera.....

and all the buttons are in the wrong place ! :lol:

I've just upgraded from my 350d to a 40d, and its proved to be quite a jump :-)

There's a few features that I didn't even realise I was getting too, such as the option to use "live view" rather than the viewfinder.

Any other neat perks I should look out for

Have taken the obligatory, justgotanewcameraandnowimustphotographeverything shots, and even with quick snaps I am amazed at the difference in sharpness even just on the camera display so can't wait to get it up on the PC..... the extra focus points are a treat too :)

Very happy I decided to go with the 40d and not the 400d :)
 
I know which wheel you mean... LOVING it :)

The toggle is a bit annoying though, but I can work round that :)
 
It'll be second nature in no time.

I've had a few cameras since the 40D but I've never got rid of it. Great body.
 
It is a classic most owners just like to hang on to.

I don't know which lens you have but the 17-55 f2.8 raises it to another level again.

I don't nock it, great shots are taken with that lens.
the other is for when you can afford to spoil yourself.

Well I'm going to trade it up for the version with IS but definetly won't be leaving my kit any time soon

Also going to get hold of a canon 28-80 :)

And possibly a tamron 55-200 when funds allow
 
Yes agree about the 40D being special I will never sell mine even though I've since bought a 7D:)

That was my first wake up call - 40D / 7D

AF on the 7D was night and day better but if I don't need the AF I still maintain the 40D has the edge.

Chucked the 7D for a 1D3 and it's a million times better with a 40D in reserve.
 
I am on the lookabout for a nifty fifty, just another on the want list !
 
I am about to upgrade- in fact, I collect my new camera body tomorrow from Devon Camera Centre in Exeter, I wont sleep tonight :lol::lol::lol:

Just when I was settled on getting the nikon d5100, the things being said about the 40d are making me torn again!

Get the Nikon!
The 40d is great and if you own one already, then keep it, but as a first camera the d5100 is much more beginner friendly and does everything a 40d will do and more.
 
Gah this making the 550d/40d decision all the harder, think I'm leaning towards the 40d though.

I was originally in the 450/550 or 40d.... but 40d is something I cannot see myself letting go of.

Once I've got some new glass behind me to I'll be a happy bunny indeed

I used to own a 550D and it was a terrific little camera, but there's something about the 40D which makes it special - the IQ has a kind of 'full frame silkiness' to it. It's also a fairly basic machine with no particular frills or gizmos, which I like.
 
Yeah I used to use a 550d, ended up doing a lot more video than I expected and it wasn't really cutting it(was shooting at up to 1400mm), but since then I've kind of decided I really need to stick to either photo or video, and I much prefer photo, so here I am, just bought a 40d & 50mm last night, should have it tomorrow, just need to save a bit more so I can get a 70-200, 24-105 and an 11-16 and I'm sorted.
 
40D is a great camera, you will come to love it, will be very sad when mine no longer functions.

I'm ashamed to say I never even switched the video function on!

You will love your 40D I'm sure. I currently have a mint 24-105 which I have to sell (I'm switching our primary kit to mirrorless so don't need two of each lens), feel free to drop me a message if you're interested.
 
The 40D is a great body, I used mine for 2 years before upgrading. Although I must admit, now the 40D seems so basic to me, and doesn't do as much as I'd like it too :lol:
