I have a 9800 Mitsubishi dye sub printer which I purchased from new, it worked well for about 20 months then is started to create a narrow white line down one side of the print. This was also the case with all media sizes 6x4, 7x5 and also 9x6. I d previously had my other 9800 repaired under warranty as the same thing happened..
As the 9800 was out of warranty I just left it in the studio until I had some spare cash to get it fixed. In the meantime I got the IPA Out and gave the heads a thorough clean. This was to no avail as the thin narrow line was still present.
As I'm doing a gig in the near future, I was reminded of the defective printer so I called Mitsubishi to get a quote. I was put through to the tech guys, Kevin and Gary, I explained the situation and they suggested that I clean not only the print head but also the metal frame above and below the head, I was informed that this metal section actually sat on the clear ink roll to press it against the paper and if any debris was deposited on this frame , then the symptoms I was experiencing would be apparent. I duly went about the stronger cleaning routine as advised and low and behold the thin white line disappeared.
I'd just like say a big thank you to the guys at Mitsubishi, firstly for making me aware of the other areas to clean and more importantly saving me £300.
