Tesco Supplies?

HGV driver shortages happened as a result of a change in the TAX laws , Nearly all non UK driver were claiming to be a one man LTD company and avoiding tax on earnings , When the GOV changed the tax lawas that meant they had to pay tax on earnings they left the UK , I think most went to Germany or returned home , I had 1st hand experience of this as I was a UK HGV driver for 25 years.

thats not quite true, even operating as a ltd company you cannot avoid paying taxes, i know this as i am a company director of as you put it a "one man band" you simply pay the taxes in a different way. what happened is the HMRC forced all HGV agency drivers into IR35 which basically meant they paid more tax and NI than the average permie so quite rightly they jogged off.

Googling and reading with an open mind and willing to accept that everything isn't necessarily Brexit related I found an explanation which seems to be being repeated by the major supermarkets... weather in Spain and north Africa and energy prices. I also found my way to a complaining UK grower claiming the main issue in the UK is increased energy costs making it impossible to heat polytunnels given the price pressure from supermarkets. He just can't get a price that makes it worthwhile, he says, and I think I believe him. Googling tells me Brexit is minimal in this, but lets ignore that as Brexit. Innit. Obvs.

We went to ASDA today and got every single thing we went for including tomatoes. Well actually not quite. I couldn't get spicy burgers and had to settle for southern style ones but no biggie as we put home made spicy sauce on them. Yummy. There were as usual some empty containers but I find that's usual for ASDA. Tesco do seem to be more fully stocked every time I go.

all you say is pretty much true its a bit of everything but BREXIT is a big part of the problem , put simply the EU is a much better market for growers to sell into the UK is now to much hassle to ship to and why would you when you can get more in your home market?

The UK growers say that because of energy bills being so high they didn't plant an early crop in the poly tunnels as you say because they would have lost money, sounds reasonable. The UK is screwed , since it left the EU is stated all the things it would take control of and secure, farming, fishing, immigration and it is failing on all counts
