Phogtographer Martin Elliott, who captured that iconic Athena image of a young, lithe tennis player hitching her skirt to reveal a pert behind, has died at his home in Cornwall.

Love it or hate it, it's an iconic image which has certainly endured. Sad news indeed.

Tried to post in the news section, but couldn't for some reason

Gosh, though sorry to hear of departed merit, I've just renewed acquaintance with someone I haven't seen in over thirty years.

Iconic image, great story behind it to and it was truly an image of my youth!! RIp Martin.

RIP a legend. Iconic image, as said in the article, often copied, never bettered. :(

OMG I never really thought of it as a photo.. just as a poster.. and i remember it well.. the guy certainly left his mark on the world...

R.I.P, I remember seeing that photo when I was a kid, made me giggle!
Reading that article though, feel sorry for him that he did not get hired much because people thought because he's famous it will be too expensive.

I remember that poster being on the wall, along with other iconic 70s posters (Che Guevara, Easy Rider stills, naked girl covered in blue paint, etc!) in the barber's shop when I was a kid during the mid-70s.

Sad news.

Like so many, I remember this image as if it were yesterday. Certainly an image that captured a "moment in time".

I was 16 when he took that shot, I well remember it though I never really knew of him. RIP m8.

I think every teenage boy had the hots for that picture.

Certainly I did and scary thing it only seems like a blink away.

RIP

I think it's one of the most famous photographs in (outside of photographer circles). Very iconic. RIP.

wow a real iconic photo ask most people to name a poster and this would be on their list :'(
