Hi does anyone here have the Meade 90mm DS2090 at-tc? I was just getting round to wrapping it and find out that a connector is required to allow the Autostar program to point you in the right direction bla bla bla to get this its £45. for the cable and software or £20 for the cable do you know if the software is the same as the one on the site and considering I payed £150 for the scope I kinda grundge paying £45 for a cable to make it work!!!

should I take it back and get a PS3 cause thats what im feeling at the moment this is joint present for the kids !

Half the fun of starting out in astronomy is learning your way around the night sky and finding objects manually.

Also, a lot of people start out with bags of enthusiasm which wanes after a while because of cloudy skies, or because it's too cold etc etc.

I would hold off buying any cables/software until you know that it's something your kids are going to maintain an interest in. In the meanwhile I can highly recommend a book called 'Turn Left at Orion'. It's written with users of small telescopes in mind, and explains how you can star hop across the sky to find interesting objects, as well as rating them as to how they will appear in your scope.

I'm not sure why you would need the cable, looking at a pic, it looks like you get an Autostar hand controller with it, so can run it without a PC connected. I spotted your post on SGL (I think...) but didn't have time to check anything at that moment... sorry.

Anyway, this indicates an Autostar hand controller is supplied.

Hi John, That is what I was under the impression of and it does, but on the box in small print it says the 505 is required to allow the use of autostar I cant pull the box out until tonight when kids are in bed but i will get it word for word.

Forums are full of great people with knowledge to share. the guy I phoned from the UK dealer for Meade was about as helpful as a chocolate teapot!!

have a good Christmas.

Michael.

oh and yeah it was me on the other forum.

Michael.

:D... Hmmm odd... anyway... warehouse express have the 505 cable for half that price if it's really needed.

get the PS3?? The kids can enjoy that during daylight hours as well. Well I suppose neighbour spotting happens during the day, but you won't find software to help!
