Hi there,

Just a quick question. Does 'telephoto' mean a zoom lens, or does it just mean a lens with a high magnification? For example, can a telephoto lens be a prime lens?

Thanks!

I'm puzzled too now, Dave.

I always thought of a prime lens as being any lens with a fixed focal length, so a 50mm f/1.8 and a 400mmf/4.5 are both prime lenses.

Also that a telephoto lens is one that gives a great magnification than what would be considered 'normal' (ie about 50mm on a FF camera) so a 400mm f/4.5 and a 70-210mm f/4 are both telephoto lenses, but the later is also a zoom lens.

Have I misunderstood something?

Dave
