I am looking to buy a sigma 17-70mm lens, and so far the cheapest place appears to be tecno.co.uk.

There site looks similar to Jessops and they are also offering the same terms on their sale items as cameras2u which some of you said was owned by Jessops.

Has anyone ordered from them? or know anything about them?

Thanks

Rob

I've never used them personally, and TBH I'm not sure I've heard someone else mention they have.

.../awaits replies from others....

There are a couple of threads on here that indicate one or two members have bought from them ... but unfortunately they do not mention anything other than the name ... Thailand Tel being one ... :D

HTH ... :p

No worries.

I've just checked their domain name and the registrant address is the same as the Tecno address (98 scudamore road). but registered to "Expert Imaging Limited" (Could be a web design company at the same address or another arm to their services....anyway i'm waffling now...lol)

Looking through the website, it does look very legitimate. Nothin is broken, everything works and points where it should, all relevant information is there, addresses, phone numbers etc.

Upon further checking...."Expert Imaging" who is the registrant of the domain name, is a registered company :

And then checking companies house for Tecno Limited, there's one disssolved at another address, but this one here (at the correct address)....

TECNO LIMITED

And upon a few further checks...my suspicions are confirmed...It's Jessops.

Their head office is, suprise surprise, at

Jessops
Jessop House
98 Scudamore Road
Leicester

Thanks Marcel for all your help.

How did you do all your checks?

One thought.... If Jessops have Tecno and cameras2u why don't they just offer competitive prices on their own web site?

Probably tax reasons ;)

Did a search of the WHOIS database for the domain names (Sites all over, I think this time I used UK2.net)

and for the companies bit www.companieshouse.gov.uk :)

Now I need to complain Marcel, I have learnt things today and its my day off!

Thanks for your help ;)

Jessops now have 3 'other' websites that I know of, it's just a bull**** way for them to say they will pricematch websites but not actually have to match prices they don't want to.

Jessop's own about half a dozen different websites, but they are not all photography related. Only jessops.com, cameras2u.com, and shopping4cameras.com are photography ones, and the good thing is they all offer cashback via Quidco.

Tecno.co.uk is supposed to be a gadget site. Other sites they own include satnavs4u.com, mp3players2u.com, and most ironically memorycards4less.com.

It is bizarre though that jessops.com is usually the most expensive site and cameras2u.com the cheapest, and the difference in price between their stores and their memory card site are ridiculous. It is a very strange business model.

Michael.
