Anyone done it? Anything that worked / didn't work?
I think the best article I have seen is http://www.diyphotography.net/teach-kids-photography/ - think I agree with most of that (apart from the 'start with film' bit.. Sure fire way to bore a kid to death given the instant age they live in). The basic gist is start in auto, get them to think about composition and experiment/set challenges, then move onto some things like depth of field, motion etc later.

Sorry, not a class, I have bought my sort of niece a 1100d because she has shown some interest in photography and her mums slr.. Think she will enjoy leaning and using the camera, but just looking for any tips to keep her engaged.

Then anything you do will be great, I am a teacher so could give tips with bigger group type type things but chances are she will just want to experiment which is perfect for a beginner photographer, no problem starting in auto and working on interesting pictures and then when the camera doesn't do what she wants she will listen to advice on how to get what she wants, she'll be learning without even knowing it. Anything too formal will probably switch her off, just remember that her attention span nay be short even though she does like it
