Teaching after COVID19 - just a thought.

At home were musing on whether some teachers might like the idea of distance teaching because, among other things, there is much less in the way of dealing with behaviour when the lesson is conducted via Zoom/whatever.

I know this won't happen; its just a thought.

This made me think after schools get back to normal and children are back in their classes perhaps schools could, for one day and on that day this would apply to only one class, ask for every child to be accompanied by a parent.

While in the class the parent does not have to be involved in the teaching - that would be the teacher's job and the teacher does not get involved with the discipline and behaviour of the child - for that day, that is the parent's job.

Will never work... you would probably need enhanced DBS checks, I would not take a days holiday to accompany my kids, and in some cases parents are the problem!!! Also, I doubt the school would approve of a little smack!

It's a very old idea: Isaac Pitman made his fortune with distance learning, using postcards and the new British Uniform Postage system. in the middle of the 19th century and he was far from the first teacher to do so. Wolsey Hall in Oxford has run home based primary and secondary classes since its foundation 1894 and is reported as having students in 100 countries.

It seems to me that both work and education are returning to the home, from which they were removed by the industrial revolution.

Yes, I know it isn't practical, it was just one of those odd thoughts you get from time to time, but it would be fun to try it.

Yesterday my partner's class had a very proactive teaching session via zoom. This was far better than the day before, when team teach was required on a pupil that had a teacher by the hair.
