I'm no master of photography but I have an opertunity to borrow a Studio, hopefully on Wednesday. I'm doing a course at college at the mo, I only have a few lessons left that I probably dont actually need to attend as its just going to consist of people finishing their workbooks etc.

So instead I'll probably be borrowing the colleges studio for a few hours, its got enough kit in there for me to use lighting, flash, backdrop etc, its just the knowledge that i'm lacking! :lol: I'm hoping to bring my best mate and his girlfriend down for some portraits etc, just for experience more than anything.

If anyone can spare any tips, help, anything at all would be appreciated. As for my gear, i'll probably just use the 50mm f/1.8 and maybe my 18-70mm? If anyone can point me in the direction of some inspiration that would be good too. Sorry for the dead questions but I dont know what I need to ask and I want to make the most of this opertunity...

True, I think its just going to be a case of lets see what happens! I have never really shot in a studio before so its all new to me. Hmmmm whats the worst that could happen :lol:

Sync speed? I told you i'm new to this :D I usually do landscapes etc so have never really needed to use my flash :lol: Actually I have just bought a flashgun but the batteries are still charging!
 
you're a bit short on a portrait lens, the 50's good, but you'll be very close.
I don't know anything about that Sigma 70-300, but I wouldn't leave it at home, ideally could do with a bit of elbow room, sorta

I'll take the sigma but its quite slow and can be very soft unless i'm shooting at f/8 and above. I also have a Nikkor 55-200mm VR, probably take that too.
 
the settings prob going to be over f8 in truth, i think i end up on bout f9 ish, 1/200th and iso 100-160. these might be wrong, but work alright for me.

sorry if you knew the right settings
 
Cheers fletch and everyone else.

That was one question that I had too, apertures.... would it be best to use a small or a wide one? I would have thought a wider one but fletch has proved me wrong :)
