Yes
Bit late to the party but thought I'd join in. I need the inspiration to use my camera more.

All will be taken with the D7000 and likely my 50mm.

I'll try and catch up and keep up. Hopefully I'll improve by next year!

Thanks Pinkbikerbabe. Think I'm making a hash of this already!

Not sure where I'm going wrong here. Photo doesn't want to show

Sorted now. Many thanks.
Tip is not to use the app

Hi Paul. Like you, I struggled to get the hang of posting but glad to see you've sorted things out. It gets easier and second nature after a while. Nice image for Captive - such a beautiful animal. Good luck with your '52.

Thanks Carl.
Took a while to get there but got it posted in the end. I'll just not use apps.

It is such a beautiful animal. One of my best shots for the day. Can't quite decide if it was waiting for the keepers to feed it or whether my three year old was about to become a tasty treat

Hi Paul very nice picture well framed with no obstructions around the face great shot.(y)

Welcome aboard, and nice first image. Stunning creature.

Like this, but could perhaps do with some adjustment to the exposure to make it a bit more punchy.:)

Hi Paul and welcome, I'm sure you'll quickly get the hang of all the links for posting.

Super shot for captive, it looks a bit dark on this screen, but I've found it does vary a lot from computer to computer. Super expression in those eyes ...yes, he does look hungry!

Thanks all.

Just started to play with the exposure. I do most of my work on iPad mainly because my computers are past their best.

I'll see what I can do with it

First go

sharp eyes between the wires ... first one looks great on my screen.

Right on the money for the theme, zoos are good but this chap/ess looks sad, perfect for your image.

Thanks. Pure luck I think. It's just about the only photo I like of about 300 over the past few days!

#2 is the better one IMO, I'd be inclined to selectively sharpen the eyes, though, so they "protrude" out through the wire.
Great start Paul

Hi Paul.
Nicely on theme. The brighter edit is an improvement, but still feels a bit underexposed to me.
Like the way you've managed to avoid getting either eye behind the mesh.

TBH I'd do something like this, if you don't like it, say so and I'll nuke it,
a little selective sharpening, and shadows highlights tool, and a different crop.

Thanks Cobra. No need to nuke it. I appreciate the help.

I've been playing with the photo for the last hour and not managed what you have. Think I need to upgrade from the iPad.

I like it, bit agree about the crop. Needs to be the whole cat in shot or right in at the face for me.

Good start and best of luck with your 52 :)

Got it in the end.
So, metal added
Metal by Paul Johnson, on Flickr

Thought I'd do the washing up and when I put my travel mug on the worktop it just caught the light

Nice radial light from the mug. Watch your edges, ie upper left corner and it seems to be leaning slightly.

Link on the comments only thread doesn't seem to be working

Cheers.

Captive - How can you not like a beautiful creature like that I agree with Cobra though I would have cropped it too.

Metal - I like the way the light hits it to give those light rings.

Thanks posiview. I'll have a look at the link now.

I should have moved the clutter out of the way. It'll teach me to rush it. Maybe invest in a spirit level as well

Thanks minx, I agree with cobra too. I should have cropped it. Absolutely beautiful creature. There were 4 of them. Going to pay another visit once the weather warms up a touch.

That's what caught my eye with the cup. I popped it on the side whilst putting it away and hey presto.

Beautiful colour tones and the light effect is very effective. Really nice abstract.

Many thanks. I was cursing myself for not buying black worktops.

Hi, welcome to the 52.

Captive - lovely animal and as other have said you did well getting the eyes between the wire. I don' know what editing software you use on the ipad but I recently used snapseed on an android tablet and was fairly impressed with it. It's a free app on android (not sure about apple) but might be worth a look for you.

Metal - lovely light reflections in the shot, caught my eye straight away. The straigtened shot is better, it's just a shame it means you lose the top bit of the cup.

Good start, hope you enjoy the rest of the 52

Thanks Steve.
I've got snapseed and toyed with it previously. I've been using the photoshop app but it's a bit light.

I may try shooting the cup again but move the food mixer first.

I'm enjoying it so far. I spend all my time looking for more opportunities. Taking loads of photos though

Hi Paul :)

Captive - Aweeee he looks a sad fellow, his eyes really ass to this image to me, liking the cropped version a bit more too despite the squarer crop, it's the colours I think that appear more striking :)

Metal - Much preferring the crop, shame it's clipped at the top slightly, but compared to the original, it did need to be upright so much better, really liking the reflected rings, a good start to your 52 :)
