Does anyone have expirience with this objectif in comparisson with the Nikkor ED 80-200 F2.8 AF-D. I'm looking for an upgrade from the 80-200 nikkor to a new AF-s lens.
The things I would like like to find in the upgrade are: more AF speed and accuracy
the AF speed and accurancy of the 80-200 is a bit dissapointing. During the concerts I shoot I never had the feeling this was an issue but on the occasions I shot CX cycling, MTB and indoor sports (handball and basketball) I had lots of missers.
The things I hope not to lose are: Build-quality, image quality
Since I do a lot of concerts and fastivals the build quality and water and dust sealing is somehow important to me
I work with a Nikon D700, not the ultimate sportscamera but should do the trick.

Did you know there is a new version of the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 announced about a month ago.

I have shot a couple of basketball seasons now with a D700 and 80-200/2.8 AF-D lens and I would have to say that when shutter speed is high enough (1/500) and ISO is high enough (3200) it's an awesome combination. I don't know if you'll be able to connect to this (you should) but in this album I have a whole bunch of D700/80-200 shots. (Which is not to say, I'd love a 70-200 with VR or VC.)

I cant comment on the differences between the Nikon as I shoot Canon, but up until recently I had the Tamron and loved it. The only reason I sold it was that I rarely used it at f/2.8 so I am swapping it for the lighter weight Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS. Anyway I'm not sure if you found this video. It compares the Nikon 70-200 with the Tamron 70-200 VC and the equivalent Canon. The Tamron performs really well

I use this exact same lens on my D500 for shooting football.

It's the only one I use and it produces excellent results.

Also, we went on holiday and I'd only just bought the lens. The first couple of days I didn't use it but towards the end of the hol I started using it.

When I got home for PP, I wished I'd had it on the camera from the beginning :(
