Hi all, thinking about buying this lens, has anyone used it, or does anyone currently own one? Would be great to here some feedback before i buy it :)

Thanks

Hi, there's two Tamron 70-300mm lenses. The newer SP VC version (£250-300) is significantly better than the cheaper (around £100.00) Di macro version by all accounts.

If you are buying for your 1000D, I would recommend the equally cheap Canon 55-250mm IS over the cheaper Tamron.

Had one for ages until the blades packed up and the aperture was stuck at f16 :-(.
Used it a lot for my son's Sunday League matches and got some decent images with it, As Chas says, focus is pretty slow and although I never realised it until I replaced it (I was happy with the images I was getting) a lot of shots suffered quite badly with purple fringings on overcast days.

I've now got the Sigma equivalent which again is quite slow to focus, but imho has better IQ than the Tamron. I'd definitely consider the Canon over the Tamron, or if 300mm is what you need, have a look at the Sigma as well http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000ALLMI8/watersphotogr-21/ref=nosim for the APO, there is a cheaper version at arounf £130 as well

I used the earlier model and didnt fall in love - just couldn't get on with the focusing speed.

I bought the cheaper version about 3 months ago, We didnt get on.. Slow focus and lack of IS/VR type. I sold it on ebay last week. Will be spending a little more and replacing it with Nikon 70-300 VR as soon as I can.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys! I'll definitely have a look at the Canon :)

Just got home and had a look at the Canon, very tempted to buy it! Thanks guys

I doubt you will regret it mate.

Here's hoping! Will look at getting it in the next couple of weeks

I had the Tamron Di LD Macro and hated it - it was slow to focus, soft at the long end and had horrible handling. The Canon 55-250mm is much, much better.

The Canon 55-250 is one of the best 'bang per buck' lenses Canon make, it's a great little lens.

Great IQ, very effective 4 stop IS with panning detection and very light. Only downside is the slightly plasticy build but it's good enough and for the price you can't argue!

I think im ordering it very soon, thanks a lot for all the advice guys!

Anyone had any experience with the VC version?
Got a good review in some mag recently.

Awww, went to order the 55-250mm lens and it's not available anymore :'(
