Beginner Tamron 70-300mm F4 vs Canon ef300mm1:4 L is comparison

Hi all
I have owned the Tamron for a few years and was reasonably happy with it, but then I saw the Canon lens going at a decent price so I got it.
I have just taken a comparison shot with both and I am surprised I can't see a bigger separation in the quality of the two.
Is the Tamron 'that' good, or might I have an issue with my Canon? I took the images at the same settings and on tripod with Canon is set to off.

They don’t, think it’s f4/5.8

From what you have written, none of us can really tell you whether the lens is in spec or not...

If you could post some images as well as an outline of how you conducted the test, that would be a good start.

Did you shoot the shots though a window by any chance? Something looks off on them to me, The Canon should be far superior...

Yes both shot from same position through window glass.

Thought so has that hazy, glazing effect try to avoid shooting though it as much as possible, not ideal to shoot though, specially when comparing lens IQ

Good shout, better weather tomorrow so hopefully get out and about.

Yes both shot from same position through window glass.

Never do that with long telephotos. It destroys iq. Also no UV or cpl for these. Same reason

Another thing to bear in mind is that the canon takes a 1.4 tc very well,don,t know about the Tamron
