Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 450D with the Stock 18-55mm Is Lens and I am now thinking about a Telephoto lens.

This one Tamron 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 lens is available to me for 100 gbp (100gbp off) and I was wondering if it is any good and if anyone here has used or uses this lens, maybe a link to some images taken with it too?.

Regards

James:)

Its OK for £ 100 but I'd spend a bit more and get the Sigma 70-300 APO.

Normal 'street' price for this lens is around £ 110-£ 120.

However, both these are the cheapest end of the telephoto bracket so will not be as good as the more expensive offerings.

Hi James,

I purchased one of these when I bought my 400D. After using it for nearly a year I think it is not a bad lens for the money (especially at £100).

Limitations I have found with it is the Autofocus isn't the quickest - I like to take sports and sometimes they aren't in focus - but maybe that's the operator, not the lens?!

Also at 300mm you only get f/5.6. In the middle of winter on the Rugby field this might not let me get a quick enough shutter for Rugby shots at ISO1600.

Saying that for £100 it ain't bad.

All of my images on Flickr are tagged for you to take a look.

Hope this helps

Mark

Thanks for the replies/Info guys, seems there are a lot of lenses in the 100 to 200gbp mark.

With regards to the Sigma Lens is this the one? 'Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro DG' at 159gbp at Jessops seems a great price for a Apo lens.

PS:Great Pics in your FlickR collection Mark :)

Howabout the 55-250IS Canon lens? It's a little belter for £180ish!! :D

:agree:
