does the tc have 5 or 8 pins?
is it a 1.4x or 2x?
With a 2x you will probably lose AF throughout the range & with a 1.4x you might have AF at the short end but lose it at the long end.
& that is assuming 8 pin - if 5 pin no AF at all ( the extra pins support in-lens motor & ADI flash).
