Folks,

A few of you know, I recently purchased a new Tamron 70-200mm VC USD for £650 from panamoz.

I just want to share how great this lens is!!! Today was my first day out with it and it just keeps giving!

AF is really fast - it would definitely benefit from a faster body AF though - the D7000 just doesn't do it justice. I feel it would be fantastic with the professional level 51 point AF but as it is, the D7000 tracks and keeps most shots in focus.

AF update* - using the D7000's auto af 39 points on a very low contrast evening, I managed a 58% hit rate for birds in flight.

The sharpness is just stupid. I don't even stop down from wide open - unless I need more DOF.

Vignetting - not a problem on DX and I've read it's minimal on FF.

Stabilisation - excellent. I can easily get shots at 1/40th of a second at 200mm, around 1/2 the shots are usable at 1/15th with good technique and with very good technique I can get 1/2 a second at 200mm.

Honestly, it is a fantastic lens and I don't think anyone would be unhappy with it.

Any play between the lens and the body? I've seen a review where comments suggest that there may be.

nice
I have the sigma 70-200 and really enjoy using it as a substitute for the canon L series (can't justify the cost for the 'real deal'
this looks good
the sigma is softer wide open but gets sharper very quickly. also I've heard of vignetting on FF bodies (which isn't a problem for me on my 7D).
I'm not that blown away by the 100% crops here but that could be just JPG artifacts or something

Agree with all of the above, awesome lens

Mine arrived last week and I have to echo everyone's comments, it is such a surprisingly good lens. I bought it to replace my Canon 70-200 f4 IS as I wanted f2.8 but couldn't afford the Canon. I think it's as good, if not slightly better than my f4 IS, and that is a fantastic lens itself.

First thing I shot with the lens was some motorsport. Hope you don't mind if I pop a couple of shots up.

5dIII at 1/50th and f11

Close up (not 100%).

5DIII at 1/60th and f22 (for some reason I had it set to ISO-200 at that point)

1DIII at 1/30th and f11

The more images the better for the thread!

I'm so glad it detects panning - I thought it couldn't pan because it didn't have the switches until Richard told me it could. Better than it does it automatically than having to faff about with switches.

I only used the VC for about half of the day. The 205 and maybe the Nova was taken with the VC off, with the KA it was definitely on.

has anybody used this lens with a 1.4 tc and would it have to be a tamron tc or a canon one

thanks
