I'm thinking of getting a Tamron 28mm-300mm lens for my GX-1L (Pentax) any thoughts ?

I have one for my Canon. I keep it in my camera bag because its a lot easier to carry this about at 600g than it is to carry about my Sigma 100-300 f4 at 1600g, and I have it for those occassions my 24-105L doesn't cut the mustard.

The 24-105L is an excellent lens and superior to the 28-300 at every focal length up to 106mm! Whilst you can zoom with your feet to some extent, you know what I mean!

I took it to Brands Hatch once for motor racing (my big Sigma hadn't arrived in time) and was pleasantly surprised by its performance.

Must admit I'm quite surprised to see a 'super zoom' recommended. I've never owned one but have noticed people that buy this type of lens with huge zoom range don't usually keep them very long.

If I know I'm going to need 100-300 I take my big lens, otherwise I leave it at home. I wouldn't want it as my only lens though. It also lets me into places where a huge lens would get funny looks

I could quite use a similar type of lens when I go somewhere for a longer walk and don't want to carry much or when swapping lenses isn't an option (also, street photography, enyone? ;) ). I've been looking at the Sigma 18-200 OS HSM, but the bokeh is... well... pretty ugly, really. Other than that, it seems to be an OK lens for the price, so I'm split between that one, Nikon AF-S 18-135 (decent range and good optics still, but the range isn't quite what I might need), Sigma 30 mm F1.4 HSM (for lowlight stuff) or the Sigma EF 500 DG SUPER NA-iTTL (or perhaps the new 530). I wouldn't go for a 28-300 mm zoom, as I've gotten too used to the 18 mm of my 18-55 kit Nikkor and I happen to take advantage of it pretty often these days. I'll probably ask for the flash, since I think it'll be most versatile... but the zooms are tempting like hell. The Tamron 18-250 could be the thing, but I think I'll have to use MF a lot with it (slow AF).

Dilemmas... grrr. :p

Sorry for being somewhat off-topic.
