After slowing down the pace of our last holiday, by continuously changing my lens whilst wifey and family waited for me (sods law says you've almost always got the wrong one on!), scouring many many reviews, I managed to get my 40th birthday present a month early.... To practice with of course.

The tamron 18-270 lens replaces my Canon IS 18-55 and 55-250 lenses, both excellent in their own right for an amateur like myself.

First thing I checked was that the lens was compatible with the canon functions, don't know why but, I was worried VC may not work, or focussing via the 7 pt spots. The good news is, it works exactly the same way. Only real difference is that the focus can't be adjusted when in AF mode, it locks, where as the canon lenses don't.

It's bigger than I expected, but it's range is fantastic, same sort of range I was used to with my old Sony h-50 super zoom.

Auto focus is equally as fast as the other canon lenses, if anything, in good light, slightly faster. In low light, it has hunted more than I'd have expected with the old lenses attached.

Vibration control is stunning though, way better than the canons and so fast! Allegedly worth 4 stops, sounds about right, for the money it's an incredible lens. Results have been as sharp as I'd hope for. I was really apprehensive, as (for me) £400 on a 'lens' seems like an awful lot of money, but, I have to admit, it's worth every penny.

I could possibly have lived with a little slower AF, in which case, the older model without pzd is an absolute steal. But I'm happy with this.

I've got the Nikon version of that lens Alan, nice that it meant you could cut down on your lenses...but now you'll want a super wide angle lens so you can swap with that! :naughty:
Seriously though, that's what I'm saving up for, one lens for each camera.

Not a chance!!!

18mm is enough, I'll stand further back if I can't get everything in! Or stitch them later. :D

Fab lens though, every day as I get more used to it, it produces better results. Does well on the hair test (zoom in on portraits to see individual strands!) Really looking forward to the holiday. Probably won't even take my camera bag when we go out!

I always fancied getting one of these lenses but as I've got FF and a crop it wouldn't be worth it, I did plan on getting it before I got my FF body though. A lot of people on here tend to dismiss the superzooms as being soft but I did have a Tamron 28-300 VC for a time and that was a good sharp lens throughout.

I have been looking at this lens for a couple days now for my sony a35, for the same reason I don't want to be always swapping lenses. Iv been reading reviews but it's so much Breyer talking to someone who actually owns one

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for it ?

on my nikon i had the kit lens and 70-300 tamron lens and didnt like changing lens all the time.

Now i have a canon i am looking for a new lens,
