Hi,

Just after a bit of quick valuation advice to see if I’m about to pay a fair price for a lens.

I’ve been offered a second hand Tamron 18-250mm (Sony fit) for £250, including postage. According to the seller (who is a wedding/portrait togger) the lens is 18months old, has been used less than 10times and has had a UV filter on it since new. It however comes with no box.

New price on WE is £350. I’ve had a quick search on here and ebay, and can’t seem to find a guide on prices for this lens second hand.

Does £250 sound like a fair price? I’m inclined to pay it, as I would have otherwise gone for the Sigma 18-200mm at about £220 new, but the Tamron seems to make more sense for £30 extra.

Many thanks.

have you checked any reviews on it? dont know if the tamron is better than the sigma

I had that lens and got rid of it.
I felt it was producing soft images.

Heard a few folk rave about the Tamron 18 - 270mm, though.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, although it's significantly out of my budget from new, as the £250 that the 18-250mm is on offer for is my very maximum budget.

From the reviews i've read, i'm happy enough that this lens is a compromise in many respects, but i'm essentially after a holiday lens that would be the jack of all trades. Just wondering whether the £250 price is fair, as if I don't get on with the lens on holiday and revert to smaller range on my return, if I go on to resell it, I won't be losing out.

Jessops - £300.

You can find them for £300 new if you look (e.g. mifsuds) but I still think that £250 incl a decent filter & postage is fair.
of course if you could beat him down more even better.
