Hi all,

Looking for a new lens at the moment and I've found a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 on eBay without the AF motor. I have a Nikon D7000 so focusing won't be an issue but is this lens as good image quality and speed wise as the AF version? I've heard the VC version isn't as good from reading various threads on here.

Cheers

Hi Will.

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have the built-in AF motor. This pic is a true 800 pixel crop from the middle. Borders and corners are pretty decent too.

The opinion of the majority of people who have owned the VC version is that it is sharper than the non VC. I have owned both and the VC was noticeably better.

Many non VC owners like to perpetuate the story that the VC model is generally worse than the non VC .

Your talking about VC not autofocus I assume.

On the VC issue.

The early VC ones wheren't as sharp as the non VC models, but the newer VC ones are sharp and have no issues.

Thanks for the replies. I won the auction last night so have a non VC version without AF too. Came in at a good price so I'm happy!
