I have had one, (Nikon mount), since July and I love it, it was a good price for a lens that gives a 600mm reach, gives me good image quality and is very portable ... however I have recently confirmed a slight problem that is affecting some owners.
Every now and again, (could be after 100's of shots), the lens will suddenly refuse to focus ... nothing will restore it except to switch the camera off/on when it comes back to normal.
I originally thought that I had an AF problem with my camera but others have reported the same problem with the lens so I feel that I have confirmation of the source of the problem.
In all honesty it doesn't bother me much as a simple quick off/on always resolves it, but I may consider sending it back ... just don't want to be without it as I use it so much :)

I have the same problem, mine will go back to Tamron on Monday but to be clear its a fantastic lens for the money and i am sure Tamron will fix it,i just love mine,we are talking Nikon mount i have a feeling Canon mount lenses had some minor problems in the early days but i have been told there has since been a firmware fix applied to Canon units.

gramps, mine did the same thing 3 or 4 times, but thought it might be the camera.
Tamron give a good long warranty, so you should be OK.

I've had no problems with mine

Fingers crossed

Use it every Saturday

Did you send it back Carl or did it resolve itself?

Mine has the same problem. Only happened very very rarely and I thought it was my camera since its never been off since I bought it, superb lens. I have contacted Tamron about the problem and I am awaiting their reply. I might as well get it repaired if it needs it before spring arrives, I would hate to be without it now.

it seems to be that Tamron should make an official announcement to recall them and repair them

Is it a Nikon only issue? You all seem to be Nikon users (can't say for Chris as he hasn't listed hi cameras).
This lens is on my shopping list pre LeMans 2015.
Yes mine is Nikon, it's never really bothered me as it happens so rarely but now I know it is an issue I might as well get it repaired. Wouldn't stop me in any way buying another though.

Anyone actually found out if there is a fix?

Dont think Tamron have said.

Will be interested in what you get to hear Mike.

Hi gramps, no I didn't send it back because I didn't realise it might be an issue with the lens. It only happened 3 or 4 times in the 6 months I had it. I sold it & got another 80-400mm.
