hello i am thinking of buying a tamaron 70-300 macro/zoom to fit my canon 400d
as it seems good value for money as the canon version is more expensive and has no macro... anyone any experience with this brand? if so how would you rate it? any comments much appreciated :) t x

Hello Tracey. :)

Among the independent lens manufacturers Tamron, along with Sigma, have very good reputations for producing good quality lenses. No doubt if anyone here uses this lens thery'll post their comments.

There are some opinions of the lens here....

Hi Tracey and welcome to TP! Love the username by the way!

The tamron lens of which you speak is good, but the Sigma equivalent is better. Sigma do two similar lenses, one with "APO" in the name, and one without. If your budget can stretch I would get the Sigma with "APO".

Hope this helps a little. :)

What JoeT said ...
Cheapest UK price for the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Lens is £157 @ Cameras2u (includes p&p)
If you are OK with an imported lens then you can get the same lens for a miserly £119.99 at OneStopDigital in HK (includes p&p)
HTH - Paul ;)
