Hi all,

I have been looking at some Tamaron 17-50mm f2.8 lens and know somebody who has one and will sell it to me second hand, it looks in excellent condition. He told me that there are a few tiny flecks of what seems to be dust sitting on the internal glass element at the front end of the lens.

He says he has never noticed any odd artifacts in the resulting photographs.

Will this be noticeable in pics?
Should I not bother?
Also any ideas on how much a new one should cost?

A few tiny specks shouldn't affect image quality. I just sold my Tamron and bought a Canon 17-55mm (aka the dust pump). Several specks of dust but not noticeable. Oh and i got £190inc for the Tamron.

Prob better moving to equipment or ask priced section.

I've just bought one second hand and it does have at least 1 sizeable spec of dusk, but so far my tests haven't revealed anything on pictures. I know know if there would be a specific setting which would make it obvious.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pick it up for?

£198 + £5 p&p from Amazon marketplace. It's the the newer Nikon version with the built in motor. As I posted in the Bargain section a few weeks ago, I was struggling to find the latter version second hand for sub £200, so when that one appeared, I exchanged emails with the seller talking about condition and getting image samples before buying it.

As a matter of interest the Tamron SP AF 17-50 came top in the test in the October Digital SLR mag. Looks to be available around £300 mark (nikon fit).
