TalkTalk TV £4 charge from 1st Feb

Posting this because although I received an email about this I hadn't fully realised the impact of the change, but for some unknown reason TalkTalk are bringing in a standing charge of £4 per month to their TV Service, in addition to what you're already paying for any Boosts you might have. Since their basic TV service is essentially freeview, it's baffling.

When chatting to a TalkTalk rep he tried all the spiel including "other TV services charge" (I mentioned that freeview is free....) and "the charge is like the TV license" (I already pay a TV license thanks).

Anyway just highlighting in case anyone wasn't aware...I quickly cancelled all my TV services with them as we use streaming services for the most part anyway.

Update - actually threatening to cancel all TV services was enough for them to just scrap the charge on my account!

I was with Talktalk for 2 years and found their service terrible, they have a cheek charging anything in my opinion.

I was not happy about this extra charge for nothing extra, I’m going to call them now. Thanks for giving me the impetus.

No worries, I hope as many people see it as possible since they have put the onus completely on the customer to opt out. It is a bizarre situation all round!

I’ve been ‘opted out’ of the charge - it took about 15 minutes on the Live Chat. That’s £48 a year you just saved me, Thanks
