I'm seriously thinking about getting back into b&w film again.

Firstly its important to note that I'm bed bound so limited to indoor shooting.

Looking back on the portraits etc I've shot in here, in good light I'm on ISO 400 - 1600, in bad light its 1600 - 6400.

I've been looking at ordering some film and was thinking of getting a few rolls of ISO 400 & 1600 and figuring to cover 800 & 3200 by pushing the film (whole rolls of course, I remember that much )

What do you guys think?

Got lucky today when my brother visited as he dropped off his old nikon F301 for me to play with and a few rolls of ilford FP4+ ISO 125, I'm going to either have to use it with the constant lights or give it a 2 stop push and I'm not sure about pushing it that far, I was used to not exceeding a 1 stop push in the past.
I took a test shot earlier and nearly jumped out of my skin! I'd forgotten what a real shutter & motor drive sounds like!

Also it would be handy to find recommendations for a processor as there's no way I can process myself stuck in this bed, its just not practical, so much as I'd like to get back to it, its a case of process + CD for me I think.

Finally if anyone's got an old battered/broken/useless Ai nikon mount lens or just the mount laying around please give me a shout or check out the wanteds as I need to replace the worn mount on my 300mm F4.5, its so slack that there's noticeable movement in it now.

You shouldn't have any trouble pushing FP4 by two stops, just make sure you tell the processor so they compensate in development.

Hi Ian, if you want a roll of black and white push devved, I'll happily do it for you for whatever the cost of sending the negatives/CD back to you is.

Drop me a PM if you are interested

Rob

Sorry to hear you are confined to bed Ian...is that likely to be temporary or more permanent?

It's permanent Steve, been like it for 4.5 years now so I've gotten used to it.

I'm not someone who gives in easily so when I hit problems trying to do the things I love such as photography I try to find ways around them.

One of my biggest problems was the weight of kit, but I've sorted that now and also bodged a bed mount so I can still use longer lenses to shoot the birds outside my window.
I need to do a write up on that as I recently aquired one of Robs excellent lensmaster gimbal heads for it, its made a huge difference over using a standard tripod head.

This is it with the old head, its an opticron hide clamp rig, fitted to the hanging pole above my bed.

Fitted with the X-pro1 & Nikon 300mm f4.5 (the x-pro was worth selling everything I could lay my hands on ;) )

Sorry to hear that Ian...but pleased to hear you are still able to get enjoyment from photography.

Looks like an interesting setup you have.

Have you heard of the Disabled Photographers Society? They aim to help members with adapatations, equipment. support and advice to help them enjoy photography.

They may be able to help or put you in touch with someone in a similar postion for advice.

I'm a member as I have a significant mobility issue. If you are interested, I would be happy to post you their latest magazine with the contact details etc... if you PM me your address.

Nothing useful to add apart from: glad to be a part of what is the best sub-forum of TP, IMO.

Best of luck with your B&W endeavours Ian
