TalkTalk Unlimited TV, Broadband & Phone package:

Totally unlimited broadband & anytime calls + free YouView box worth £299. Pause, rewind and record anything from the last 7 days.
Online exclusive 6 MONTHS HALF PRICE. FREE Youview TV box worth £299 plus FREE £75 VOUCHER - FOR 2 DAYS ONLY

I'm currently paying £36.45 per month to BT for phone & Broadband, but with the above package line rental is £15.40 per month, so I work it out as i'd be saving £13.30 per month for the first 6 months, reducing to saving £5.55 per month thereafter, but i'd also have the youview TV included as an added bonus.

Any pitfalls that I need to be aware of ? Or anyone had any bad experiences?

You might want to look at other options before you jump. Firstly, just because they are cheaper than BT is no big deal. They are all cheaper than BT :)

What's the lock-in contract? Probably quite lengthy to cover the cost of the YouView box.

And you do know about the customer service reputation of TT?

A four service customer with Utility Warehouse will get line rental @ £14.90 a month and free unlimited broadband for six months - then just £6.99 thereafter. And free calls 24/7. And no lock-in.

If you want a YouView box then you can buy one without such a package. It's a great box, I have one, but it needs a quality antenna connection - and there's no sport (yet).

While there are horror stories for ALL providers... Talk Talk seem to have a very poor reputation.

PlusNet are pretty good and sky get good reviews too. Cheapest isnt always best!

And what is the matter with their customer service then John? I have been with them ever since they took over my old isp. About three weeks ago an engineer had to come out as my line would keep dropping. This was arranged about two days before. The guy phoned in the morning to say what time he would be here, and he arrived on time. He ran a test on his laptop and immediately throttled back my connection a little. All sorted no fuss, no charge. There are carp reviews about everybody and everything nowadays as well as good ones.

Thanks for all your replies. I know cheapest isn't always the best, and there's always more bad reviews than good, as we are keen to criticise, but less so to praise good service.

Hence, why I asked on here, before I decide whether to change or not, as I value the members opinions here.

As for the contract, I believe it's 18 months.

I've been with Talk Talk since the AOL days of the late 90's and I pay around £33 on average with unlimited internet, free 24/7 landline (even includes 300 free minutes to mobile phones) and it includes the monthly line rental.
However, the internet speed isn't record breakingly amazing at 10 mpbs via copper wire but it does the job where I very rarely have drop outs or broken connections, quite rock solid (mind you, I did have to manually adjust the MPU settings to get proper smooth flowing web loadings).

Now, since I've been with AOL/Carphone Warehouse/Warner Bros/Talk Talk for 14 years, I would like it if they sent me a youview box for free. :D

Yes, I have - I've got the Anytime Plus package. It worked out at £15.50 per month plus line rental which can be paid in one go to get a discount (I paid £114, saving £60 p.a. iirc) - so the monthly cost came to £25. The youview box and router were free (I didn't bother using their installation engineer) but involved a 24-month sign-up.

How long have you had the package and any problems to date?

A couple of years. Slow connection sometimes (never very fast on my line) but the average speed is higher than I get. The fibre option is far superior - another £10 a month I think. Telephone support isn't worth bothering with - the forum is better.

I have had TalkTalk internet since they took over Tiscali.

At present I have Internet and unlimited phone calls and I pay around £25 per month. I had quite a lot of problems where the connection would fail or be extremely slow, got the standard replies each time I complained and they would suggest I talked to their Tech support who did not solve the problem.

Then without any warning they offered me a new router as they had determined that mine was getting on a bit. The new router has increased the download speed slightly, ~16 instead of ~14, connects to the internet much quicker and has not dropped out once yet. Along with the router they sent 2 spare filters, an Ethernet cable and a router to filter cable.
If you had asked me 2 months ago I would have said do not use them but now I am satisfied with what I get.

I have just taken great pleasure in kicking out TalkTalk after 6 years of increasingly poor service and appalling communication with their overseas call centre. I'm paying more with BT but it's well worth it.

Had Talk Talk in our last flat and in our new house - never had any issues with connections/speed, the only downside is the 'bundled' wireless router is a bit weak (can't stream HD in bed on the 3rd floor, have to cope with SD, talk about 1st world problems).

Their Customer Service is meant to be absolutely appalling though - but in 2 years I've never had to phone them so I can't comment from my own experience
