Does anyone use a VPN with Talk photography ? I cannot get any access whilst using it from any location ??

i don't use a VPN as such but I use Opera with the VPN function to access certain sites blocked in the UK
Seems to work fine for me from USA and Asia

Works fine when I access it from my office over the company VPN from home (we run an OpenVPN server, which I configured and manage).

Suspect you're talking about one of these paid services that promise "privacy".

and shows up on the internet as hooky :naughty:

I often get "this IP was banned" when using my Nord VPN.
Ive mentioned before on here that banning IP's is pointless, because the scammers switch all the time anyway, its just normal people like me that end up not being able to use the forum.

If a site owner finds VPN users are responsible for ongoing attempts to find vulnerabilities, DDOS and the like, then banning known VPN endpoint IPs is a reasonable approach. Similarly if a provider of copyright content that only has a licence for that content in a particular region suspects that VPNs are being used to circumvent copyright they might do the same - given this is a photography forum and a lot of people on here are very precious about copyright on their own images, I'm sure we can all support copyright being upheld and no-one would (for example) use a VPN to access iPlayer from overseas, or the US netflix from the UK.

I had this issue a lot with Expressvpn. The only really reliable method I found was to switch it off. I cant find the thread now

But I can’t access the site without a vpn, and they keep banning the ips that nord uses. Spammers will find other ways of spamming, I’m very limited as to how I can use the site. For every one spammer they may block by banning an IP, how many innocent users are they banning at the same time?

From the Oracle
You seem to be using a subsidiary of those bogonmeisters Cogent Communications.
We get a lot of spam via them....

We catch / block 100's this way.

But I can’t access the site without a vpn,
That seems very odd any particular reason you don't want to be traced through your IP?
Obviously we only do that to check an iffy post / poster.

how many innocent users are they banning at the same time?
We get a couple or so "contacts" a year. Its soon sorted.

Nothing to do with not being traced. My internet just doesn’t work without a vpn. I can’t even load google. I’ve spent hours on the phone to my isp and they can’t find anything wrong, yet I can clearly demonstrate.. Turn the vpn off, nothing works, turn it on, everything works fine.

I assume it’s something to do with us being on a 4g connection because our landline is not useable, and we aren’t officially covered by a mast, we are in a valley in a black spot, but with an external antenna, I can just about pick up the fringes of the closest tower.

Well that is all very strange, I have no idea what that is all about, but its obviously not a TP problem

Obviously not, but the Ip address blocking of the vpn is.

It doesn't make much sense that your internet is fine in an encrypted tunnel over the same carrier as your isp is accessed, unless your isp is throttling your connection or your line bandwidth is shared. 4g suggests the latter, but does the 4g supplier not guarantee service levels?

The ip blocking carried out for TP is absolutely necessary, there are continuous attempts to access the site with fake accounts, spoofing accounts, etc which could potentially create a denial of service attack or (as we have recently seen) a spoofed id being used to try to sell non-existent kit. If it weren't for certain people being all over this like a rash, but a very good one, I dread to think what might happen. This is a huge problem on the net now, I've recently been involved in a couple of Home Office projects where they are putting huge efforts into trying to prevent ransomware attacks, after the Russia-based one that got the NHS a couple of years ago.

I use Surfshark and no problems at all accessing via either London or Glasgow. There was a hiccup once via Manchester, so I've never tried that one since. Maybe worth trying Surfshark to see? (you'll not get live BBC sports broadcasts via Surfshark, and some "this content isn't working" on news videos, but that's the only problem I've had)

My connection is really slow ( I'm 7 miles from the nearest town) and fibre is not available. The odd thing is I get Cookies must be turned on to access the site ( or something along those lines) and occasionally your IP address is banned. With the VPN I get slightly faster speeds. Sometimes it' s a case when uploading a photo that it's less fustrating if I go and make a cup of tea with the VPN its a bit better.

No idea. All I know is the internet doesn't work without the VPN.
Three won't help as we aren't officially covered by thier network, yet they are happy to take our money every month.

Hopefully the fibre to the home will be connected soon, we've only been waiting since 2017. They put the pots in last month so now just waiting for them to finish the backhaul and start making connections.
