Yes
You can probably tell that I am in a chatty mood.

Can I just say what a credit this site and the Talk Photography staff and members are to the internet and what a great place this is. :woot:

Over the last few weeks, I have been posting work in various forums, to expand my knowledge. Yet, I have concluded that there seems to be an 'old boys network' in place on some with very experienced snappers posting their work for acclaim, but not actually commenting on other peoples efforts, which is harsh.

As such, it got me thinking about here and my other favourite site and I commend TP and all its members for keeping it real.

Pete.

Here here! :agree:

I was on another photog formum a week or so ago reading a long running thread discussing the merits between the D80 and the 400D. A 15 year old lad on there made some very salient points, starting his post with "in my experience".

The next person to post stated "What, in ALL YOUR 15 YEARS of experience, what a wealth of knowledge you must have...."

I found that statement so offensive and so against what I believe the ethos of a forum to be that I haven't visited the site since, prefering to spend my time on TPF with all you friendly guys and girls :D

I have to say, I spend a lot of time on here nowadays and I have not seen one post that I have ever considered even remotely rude or anything but in good humour. Even in debate everyone remains pleasant and friendly. So yes, a big  to all the staff and thanks for creating a great place for us to hang out!

Aye this place is 'tot, i dont post often but i'm for ever reading and have it my sig on other forums. Its the only photography forum that i know of thats truley newbie friendly and no question is too stupid - ideal for me :D

I came here from another place that was just not newbie friendly. I mean they had a whole post on how stupid newbies were and why did everyone ask the same questions. blah blah. Anyway it was hard to fit in. Not here! It is the friendliest bunch of englishmen(women) I've ever met. Thanks TP!

Thats poor isnt it. I have seen some amazing work from kids all over the net, especially on Pbase and flickr.

I think this is why I try and post my work with the experience side of it as it is fun, people read and learn and get an insight.

I have learnt SO much from being a member of TPF and that's down to the willingness of everyone here to share what they have learnt. This place has such a community spirt. There are some excellent photographers here (of which you are one Pete) who are so willing to help out people like me who are relatively new to photography. I hope, in turn, as my level of knowledge grows, I too am able to offer help to those who need it.

Thanks Pete, and everyone else. :)

As Pete's post points out, the atmosphere here reflects credit on the members as much as the staff, in fact probably more so- we have a great good natured lot, which is just as well because the admin here are basically a bunch of idle sods who would rather not have to moderate the board at all, and incredibly, that's pretty much how it is.

The day it's even remotely like some of the cliquey pompous boards out there, I wont be here, and I know the rest of the staff feel the same. Here's lookin' at you kids - onwards and upwards.

Yep, yep and yep ! ;)

Im not an idle sod by the way, i am idle though ! ;) only moderating i have to do recently is break a link on a pic that had come out over the guidelines and move a spammer to the naughty bin ! ;) lol

lol if I'm honest, I'm as idle as they come :D

It even took me ages to look up what procrastination meant...lol

As has been said, this site is down to the members, and that's you guys.
Like CT says, the day it becomes like some other forums out there will be a sad day indeed, and I honestly don't think anyone here would ever let that happen.

This was one of the reasons that TP was set up in the first place (way back when). It was because we wanted somewhere that photographers of ALL levels could come for advice, and to just chat about their hobby, regardless of their experience, skill level, or interest.

For someone to put a comment about someones age like that on the other forum really isn't fair. I can think of about 5 members off the top of my head here that are under 18, and their age has never been an issue, nor mentioned.
Every contribution here is valid and wanted, regardless of experience or age. So if there are lurkers reading this worrying about jumping in with thoughts and posts, please JUMP IN...we dont bite...honest :)

The way I see it, everyone's got a set of eyes...and everyone's got a brain (usually...lol)....it doesn't matter how old they are. Experience is experience, and thoughts and opinions are thoughts and opinions, all as equally as valid as the next mans.

Seriously though, thanks for this thread Pete. It warms the cockles, it really does , that you've taken the time to post something nice like this :D nice to know we're doing something right. I'm personally one of those people who's always eager to please others, so it's really nice to hear this :)

Like said...onwards and upwards.....

Yep Love it here :) Learned so much from everybody and I know I'm not the best at posting, my spelling and general writing is not too good. Thank you for putting up with me  I also hope to pass on anything I ever learn at college because I know that everyone would do that if they had the same opportunity.

P.s the admin staff are awsome!
