Hi all, just wondered if you can help as not been here before. I have a free evening and morning on Tuesday near Preston and was looking at a sunrise and sunset location. Could anyone advise on the possibilities of the above lighthouses please regarding best times and better with high or low tide. Appreciate any help.

Paul, hello again.
Fort Perch is a lot nearer to Preston; Talacre will be quite a hike. Even so you are talking of maybe 1.5 hours drive through Liverpool and the tunnel. In addition Fort Perch has man made concrete groynes that are quite geometric and can be used to good effect.
Sunset on Tuesday is 8.37PM Low Tide is 6.13PM with High Tide at 10.52PM. That means that at sunset the water will be half way in and half way out. That is probably one of the best ways of photographing it. There remains interest in the foreground.
Unfortunatley the weather up here has been little more than a dull grey blanket for some time now and the forecast isn't for much improvement. So you might not get a colourfull sunset but you stand a chance of some good mono conversions and 10 stop shots.
Here's a shot I took with @Mr Perceptive in the winter. This was at high tide around midday so the groynes are largely covered over.

Afterwards we can go to the Waterfront by the ferry terminal (if you know the way!) and do nightime panoramas back across the Mersey to capture the Liverpool waterfront.
I live roughly half way between Preston and New Brighton so can arrange a meet if you like and can guide you through the labyrinthine streets either side of the tunnel. (Public Health Warning...I've only just left my sick bed so won't be bouncing through the surf!)
I need to get out again so drop me a line if you still fancy it.

I'm not available on Tuesday (unfortunately), but @mickledore is right Talacre is a long trek from Preston, and even Fort Perch is quite a trip, Both are effectively west facing so Sun in a sunsrise won't be in shot, but you can get a nice glow on the lighthouse.

If you do shoot across the Mersey at Liverpool, you probably won't need a wide angle lens, and I'd suggest looking at a stitched panorama.

And hello again Frank  hopefully your feeling better?
I appreciate the quick response and help here. Well if you haven't got anything planned that would be good to meet up again even for a coffee or beer. I don't know the area at all, so any help is really appreciated.

Also thank you very much for the info @Mr Perceptive, will check the map again.

Nice place to visit, I live not too far away. Me and the missus often go, we take a flask and butties. Got some nice photos and videos of the area. Few reasonably priced Cafes, or failing that, there is a Morrisons just down the road.

Paul, firstly were will you be based? Aren't you something to do with airplanes so Warton or Samlesbury?
Evening gives more potential.
You are approx 45 mins from me, and then 45 mins from Perch Rock depending on time of day.
What is your schedule?
I can be free all day to fit in with you.
Weather has perked up this PM and forecast is now better than it was so you might be lucky with sunsets.
Get back to me on here or by PM and we'll fix something up.
